Any studs on this list?

At first glance I see Melquan Bolding and Denzel Yard (Siena).  Neither would be great, but Bolding did score double-digits for Duqesne out of the A-10.

I don't think we can really afford a transfer this next yr.  We're too close to winning with those 9 seniors to afford to have a guy who can't play.  I think the following year we should look at bringing on 2 solid transfers.

The transfers can't play next year, they have to sit out.  So we'd want a guy or two who can't play, who will get ready for 2011.

But where are these spots going to come from?? Assuming all 9 seniors stay, the only guys left are Stith, Omari and Quincy.  I don't think anyone here wants Omari gone.  Quincy isn't leaving after sitting out a year to just go and sit out another.  And as much as we rag on Stith, he is our only legit 2nd option at the point.  There is the Ron Roberts scholarship but I'm guessing Lavin wants to get someone in.  Now if that person is a stud point guard, there is a chance Stith leaves but otherwise I just don't see it happening.  The following year is going to be like a rebuilding year anyway so even if we bring in guys who can't really play, the following year they'll be ready to go and our team should be on the upswing.

If both Stith and Roberts transfer, we'd have to find a way to replace 1.5 ppg, and .65 assists per game.

Good points. Don't know if the team will have a spot for any transfers.  And there are no rumors of anyone leaving the team, so there's just Ron Roberts' scholly.

I think Q can be a player - just needs some adjustments.  He can get his shot, he has a floater in his arsenal, he's got a decent looking shot and some height and he can hit his free throws, which indicates that he can develop as a shooter.

I don't know about Stith.  He wasn't TyShwan-bad but I don't know what to project for his future.

True however next year's team has a lot of potential if they bring in a great recruit or JC player or two.  If they bring in a couple transfers (if a second spot even opened up) then what you saw is what you'll get and while I have no doubt that the team will compete for a bubble spot I don't see a huge jump.

Why would we waste a scholarship for someone he can't play next year?  They'd have to be a complete stud.

Coach Lavin/Transfers
« Reply #14 on: April 14, 2010, 07:55:37 PM »
Coach Lavin has rolled the dice on transfers several times in his 7 years as a head Coach.

He brought in Moose Bailey at PG his first year at UCLA - Moose is Toby Bailey's little brother, and had been a starter as a frosh at Penn State.  For some reason, once he got here, Moose couldn't beat out the two guys in front of him - Baron Davis and Earl Watson :)

He brought in another Penn State player a couple years later - Jon Crispin - who'd been a starter on Penn State's Sweet 16 team.  Crispin unfortuately had a degenerating back problem (from his Junior year in high school!) which got progressively worse, and robbed him of his lift and lateral movement - he was a deep reserve for the Bruins.

His last transfer was  Brian Morrison from UNC - B'mo had been the #24 recruit in the country two years before...Tho beset with injuries during his 2 years with the Bruins, B'mo was a starter for the team when healthy...

The transfer game is so huge for any school not named Duke, Syracuse, UNC, or Kentucky.

true but boeheim really knows how to pick spots huh? wes johnson 1 for 1 in about 30 years and curry might make it 2 for 2 in a combined 100 years for those 4 schools. not counting mcleod of course!

Get Shumpert.

His stats are atrocious on a mediocore and young Arizona team.  He averaged 2.1 mpg.  He sat a few freshman.
