Devin Brooks - G - St. Raymond's HS - Bronx, NY
« on: December 14, 2009, 12:00:17 PM »
Particularly noteworthy was junior guard Devin Brooks, a Chelsea transfer. In the Ravens first three games, Brooks struggled to play within the team’s system. But against Wings, Brooks, who has an offer from St. John’s and played in front of Red Storm coach Norm Roberts, played his best game in a St. Ray’s uniform.

“He had a really good floor game and then he had 10 points in the second half,” Antigua said. “That’s a great for him… I liked the fact that he let the game come to him.”

Does anyone have any information on him?  On rivals he is a top 130 player and is a pg.  Rivals also has SJU listed as his #1 choice.  Could he be the next great pg at SJU, a position we have not been good at for a while?

Edited to match format of other recruiting threads.

I do hope that Lavin picks up some 2011 guys who are decent backups too.  You need some guys who don't think they're stars/ won't get ticked when they ride pine for a few games.

4/5ths of our starting lineup the past few seasons have been backups IMO.

He's a kid who will likely need a year of prep basketball.  This was his first season playing at St. Ray's after time at Hayes and at Chelsea High School.  Very athletic, good shooter and passer with lots of ability good size (about 6'2") and lots of room for his game to grow.  St. John's and others will keep an eye on him as he either preps or goes juco.

Devin Brooks '11, a 6'2 guard of St. Raymond's (NY), listed just one school, but it is a big one. Brooks, who was with the LIL U17 team, said that he has a scholarship offer from St. John's. Brooks, who is looking for "education" when it comes to making his choice, discussed his feelings on the Red Storm when asked if he is interested in SJU.

"If there are better schools out there, I don't wanna say I'm interested, but you could say I'm kinda interested," Brooks said.

Graduating all of our seniors hopefully will at least give us credibility as a school first, and a basketball program second.

I guess this wouldn't be a Norm offer, right? A new coach would probably rescind all the blah offers by the previous one.

Since it's the players talking about it, and not reports of unofficials, we don't know if Lavin's still recruiting him.  I know Nick Johnson claimed he was speaking to Steve Lavin, though, so we can take that as legit.

I'm not sure what to make of that statement.
When you're a kid from New York and you do it in New York, that lasts forever!

I agree. I don't find the quote particular adoring.  Sounds like he's wants something different but he's happy to have a fall back option.
