It was sickening seeing all our talent go to hick colleges in the middle of nowhere. You'd think players would wanna play at a school where they'd be in the spotlight. Can you think of any big time programs in a big city ? The only team I could think of was UCLA, otherwise all the other teams are in small towns. If St John's becomes a national power again, they'll be on the MSG network and other big NYC TV stations all the time. What channel is Kentucky on when they're not on espn ? And I wouldn't be surprised if ST. John's played all its games at MSG.
Alot of SJU alumni never experienced a final 4 season. I entered SJU in the fall of 1984 , just in time for a final 4. I remember all the tv coverage. St John''s was the first story on the news programs . The whole city was rooting for SJU. I remember seeing Mullin in the hallway talking to other students. He looked even younger in person then on TV. Man he got old looking . My friend had him in one of his classes. Imagine having a future NBA superstar as a classmate ? It was amazing seeing all the SJU players walking around campus, Mark Jackson, Bill Wennington, Walter Berry , Mullin, Stewart, Willie Glass. Never saw Carneseca .
and then the epic big east battles with Georgetown. And St. John's becoming #1 in the country after beating Georgetown.
Lets hope we have days like this in the near future. Maybe St. John's will captivate NYC like the Yankees/Mets/Knicks/ Rangers do someday. And not get beat anymore by Hofstra or Fordham.
