Steve Lavin is on his fifth cell phone in seven months.

Sitting in The Odeon on West Broadway, not far from his SoHo apartment, the first-year St. John’s coach is lamenting that his fourth phone died on Wednesday, which just happened to be national signing day. Some quotes

“If you can’t sell St. John’s, New York, The Garden, the Big East, our tradition,” Lavin pauses, “I’m a 46-year-old guy with a pot belly and I’m ready to sign!”

“I think he’s getting St. John’s ready to make a run,” Harkless said. “And it will be crazy in New York City.”
