Turning St. John's back into a basketball destination was a challenge, but coach Steve Lavin met it by landing a heralded recruiting class. Teaching a group of players that hasn't mastered how to win was another, but he seems to be doing that, too. However, in the last few days the coach has handled an entirely different kind of test.
