Ram Slam [Calm Before the Storm]
« on: December 10, 2010, 05:46:46 PM »
On Saturday, St. John’s faces another repeat opponent from last year – the in-city Fordham Rams. The Rams, coached by former Hofstra coach Tom Pecora, welcome the Johnnies to Bronx’ Rose Hill gym; it’s a road game, but not a real road game. It’s sold out, partly because of the St. John’s fans who will help fill up the 3000-seat arena.

In last year’s game at Carnesecca Arena, St. John’s beat Fordham soundly (73-56). How much better have they gotten with a new coach and new players? We will find out on Saturday night. The Rams consider this one of their biggest weeks; St. John’s needs to stamp out their hopes of a resurgence.

This is the weakest team we've faced to date. There is no reason for a close game.

We may not be uber talented, but we should at least be the best team they've faced this season.

No more excuses for these guys. Time to man up and play 40 minutes of basketball.

SJU 84. Fordham 57. Kennedy starts playing like he can.

This game has to be a blowout. No experimenting with lineups. Lets play our best guys and put our best post defenders on Gaston.

Hopefully Pecora can get Fordham's program going so this can be more of a local rivalry. This is a very similar team to the one that went 2-26 last year. Its @ Fordham and Pecora wants this win bad so I expect their best effort. I think Hardy goes off and Kennedy plays well, both scoring around 20 and SJU wins 74-58.

Hopefully, we beat them into next week.

People on this board have no respect for Pecora, but the fact is, he's owned this program like no other local has.

It might be a rebuilding team. It might be one of the worst teams in the country, but this game means something to the fans.

Especially this fan who witnessed each Hofstra beat down live.

A good thing: Fordham averages 15.3 turnovers.

A bad thing: Fordham averages 41 rebounds.

While I would like to see a blowout, work mates who are Fordham alums are going and looking forward to the game.  they have just thrashed their major rival in the Battle of the Bronx and now look to take on the Kings of the City.  Gaston was though to stop last year and expect better from him this year.  I believe they will wear Peccora's chip on their shoulder along with the hope for payback after last year's spanking we administered.  The gang that can't shoot straight will probably make this closer than it needs to be.  I find the spreads by the experts to be somewhat high having watched our guys for 3+ years.
