Don't call it an upset.
St. John's sent the college basketball world a message Monday night by toughing out a thrilling 61-58 victory over No. 13 Georgetown before 8,897 at the Garden. And that win, its fifth straight, gives the Red Storm the look of a Big East contender.
Trailing 58-57 with less than 20 seconds to play the Johnnies came out of a time out, spread the floor and got the ball into Dwight Hardy's hands. Hardy drove the left side toward the basket, drawing most of the Hoya defense. His shot missed, but he lifted it high enough so that when it came off on the right side, Justin Brownlee could put it back for what proved the game-winning points with 10 seconds left.
"I was in the right place at the right time," Brownlee said.
