Notre Dame Post Game Discussion 1/16
« on: January 16, 2011, 02:34:58 PM »
Awesome win. ND could not handle the pressure defense. The defense was relentless and the effort was awesome. On offense we did what we could in the 1st half but in the 2nd half we got a little bit from everyone. DJ and Hardy really picked it up in the second half. Both Maliks played nicely, Boothe gave us a few huge buckets early and some big free throws late. Stith played very good D as well. Great all around effort and a huge win at home.

brownlee and horne played well to. the three bigs gave us nothing at all.

I think for us to get in the tourny we just have to beat the teams around and below us in the standings. Louisville, marqutte, cincy, west virgina, and geogetown are all teams we are competing agisnt to get the last couple of bigeast spots.
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

We won today for one reason and one reason alone: defense.
We played great man to man defense.

Props to Brownlee, Boothe, Horne and everyone else for hustling for 40 minutes, and responding well every time ND started to get back into it.
Boothe took and made big shots in the first half when no one was scoring on either team. Kennedy was huge in the second half. And and one off the glass was great. Lucky, but great.
Brownlee, at around the 10 minute mark, went up for an offensive rebound over 3 ND big men, and tipped it back to Hardy. If ND gets that ball, they could cut it to 8 or 9 and who knows. His game has really stepped up.

This team is hard to figure out.   Great win.

When they play aggressive pressure defense they win. The man to man defense was great also the zone is ok at times but we are very good in man to man. On offense we are at our best when we pentrate and get to the line in the half court and run the fast break. If we can more consistently do these things we will be ranked sooner than later.

kudos to the coaches and players.  The coaches changed learned what can best ND--in your face Man rather than the zone and going small with Paris starting to defend the 3 PT line and the team executed the defensive game plan excellently.  Almost everyone contributed including the smurfs.  Great to see Hansborough *itching to the refs at the end of the 1st half--I guess he didn't like being covered.  What team was shooting FT's so well.  One of those 3 points of emphasis noted by Coach Lavin at the beginning of the season.  Brey stopped fouling with 2 minutes to go as it was looking like an automatic 2 for us.  Extra congrats for Paris going 5 for 7 on FT's.

All in all this game made for a happy subway ride home despite the MTA.

Also thought we had a good turnout of red today but need more and get off your butts and cheer for the team at timeouts when they show they are putting in positive effort!  If this old gut can do it, you younger redmen can!  Also I thought we had more SJU fans at the game as we sounded louder than ND at introduction of teams.

Great job by Boothe and Kennedy...when we needed a big shot they stepped up and took it.

I picked a good game to go to.  This was a big win to stop the bleeding.

Awesome win!! This team is so schizophrenic.  You never know which team is going to show up.  Based on the win/loss against top 30 teams of 3-3, we should be ranked around 15th.  However, even with those dragging losses to Fordham and St. B, we should be getting some votes tomorrow.    I think most will eventually view those 2 losses as an excusable hiccup.  Glad to see the DJ of old out there in the 2nd half.  Great D - most impressive.  The guys were getting scrappy.  Booth appeared ready to throw down. We still appear to be slightly scoring challenged at times.  Big props to the coaching team, such a contrast to the previous years.  I liked that we went so deep on the bench, but I think putting in Evans and Stith was digging too far.  Such great teamwork from the others, but Stith's mentality destroys this vibe because his actions always seem self-centered.  Stith's talents do not live up to his self-perception.  Evans is simply a walking turnover machine.  Anywho- I'm officially excited as we are finally a legitimate team.  Kudos.

The defense was impressive.

I like the second half attack: Good movements, good passes, good shots.

I enjoyed it.

Congratulations.

Solid win yesterday. It is very important that we win games at home because we all know that no game on the road in the BE is an easy one.I like the decision to go with Horne in the starting lineup instead of coker.  We really didn't get anything from the bigs yesterday but it was great to see dj shoot the open shot and not look lost out there.  All in all good win and hey 4-2 in the league is a great start. the

Coker gave us something yesterday. That's where the knot in my stomach came from. Who gets called for an intentional foul on offense? At least knock someone down on defense. He just throws elbows, because he hasn't learned the game.

Nice start with the 27 votes. Our defensive intensity was off the charts. Play D like that, find our rhythm offensively and catch better teams on off nights and we could get more top 25 victories. Keep it coming!!
