Coach of the year?

I'd vote for Mike Brey, followed by Jim Calhoun and then Rick Pitino.

Jim Calhoun? Where does he come from?

I'd give a vote to Cronin before him. Lavin took the Johnnies from 13th to 3rd biggest jump in the conference.

I was only joking. Brey is his stiffest competition.
I hate Calhoun, but if expectations are going to be considered,
he did exceed Uconn's simply by being ranked.

Lavin should not only win BE COY, but NCOY too.
13th to 3rd is incredible. It would be awful if he didn't get it.

Lav should get it but he won't. I'm hearing pitino wants it so bad he is calling in favors

I'm thinking Brey will get it.

Brey, Petino (personally not a fan...shocked he still has this job) and then Lavin. Our coaching staff did an unbelievable job this year!! They all deserve credit...fan friggin tastic!

I'm not so sure Lavin won't get it. 6-12 to 12-6 is flat out spectacular. Notre Dame was already a tournament team. They became a better one. That's not an unusual improvement. What Lavin did, was amazing. Just ask Mike Rice,  Kevin Willard and poor Oliver how hard it is in the BE.

I think politics come into play, and I think Pitino gets it. I also think Pitino is a shady fellow, wouldn't put it past him to call him favors to feed his ego.  Pitino did a great job, but it's a job he's done over much of his career. It's not like the guys he has couldn't play, and he lucked out with how ready Gorgui Dieng was.

St. John's is winning with Hardy and smoke and mirrors. That's a damned coach of the year job by Lavin.

Louisville had a good year but they had the tools.  ND has overachieved a bit but Lavin has clearly done the best job of getting his team to play beyond expectation.  Tha is especially true considering he just took over and had to implement a new system and get the players to learn it and execute it almost immediately.  The early season growing pains are being held against Lavin but they were a necessary part of getting us to be the team we are now.

Lavin is coach of the year!

It's between Brey and Lavin. What Lavin did is way more impressive, I don't think it's close. Like others have said in here, ND was already a NCAA team, we were at the bottom of the barrel, now we are #5 in the conference with 12 wins how do you ignore that based on what happened last season?
