Talent

It looks like our three biggest targets for 2012 are: Anderson, Gathers, and Reinhardt.  Let's assume we land those three and not factor in Greene, Nuri,  Stith, or GG--although I expect all four to contribute a lot.     

We landed six RSCI top 75 players from the class of 2011 (five in the top 51, Pelle being #51).  Think about that for a second...that means we could start an entire lineup of top 51 talent with a SUB being top 75 in 2011-2012.  If we landed the above trio--Anderson top ten, Gathers top 40, and Reinhardt poised to make a big move into the top 40--we would have EIGHT top 50 players and one top 75 player. 

There are 335 or so basketball teams in NCAA D-1.  For one team to have eight top 51 players covering a two-year recruiting period is just insane.  What's even scarier is that we could have a roster in 2013-2014 or 2014-2015 that has 11 top 51 RSCI players and 12/13 in the top 75 of the RSCI.  I'm not sure that has ever been done. 

It's amazing.  It is how you build a team to win ball games.  It's what makes many of the blue-bloods what they are.  The life blood of the best programs is consistently bringing in talent.  I shudder to think about this level of talent being brought in here for a very long time under Lavin and the amazing heights that this program potentially can reach.  Let's remember that guys like Calhoun and Boeheim are coaching well into their 70's.  Let's hope we can get that kind of longevity coupled with the recruiting success we've been having.  Can be dangerously good for a long time and Steve can get the key to the city with respect to college basketball.   Exciting times at SJU.

Great stats, no doubt about it we can be a top 5 team talent wise in 2012-2013 especially if we land the 3 you mentioned. From their it goes to coaching and heart/intangibles which we know we have the coaching so it would come down to the intangibles if we are going to make a serious run

It is kind of weird to me that Memphis only had one recruit above RSCI #41 (Derrick Rose #5) and Uconn only had two recruits inside #25 (Talik Brown #10, Villanueva #18).  It's seems like both of those schools were raking in elite recruits, but they both made their living in 30-99. 

Of course these are just rankings, but it is a great indicator.  KA could give us that top ten recruit a lot of these schools have.  McCoulagh could also be at top ten kid.
