St. John's is ranked as a 3 way tie for 40th with Florida and St. Joseph's

Here is a break down of their scoring system: http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/62654/introducing-the-50-in-50-series

While that alone is enough to spark some interesting debate so too I'm sure will their choices for the starting 5 and bench players form St. Johns and their poll of which is the best St. John's team of the last 50 years.

Tied with Florida? We're tied with one of the best programs in the nation? I don't get it.

The last 20 years should knock us out of the top 50.

Why should the last 20 years negate the prior 80-100 years?  That makes as much sense as saying that the next 2 years should knock out the past 20.  Certainly we haven't thrived over the past 20 years, but history doesn't just dissolve.

With that said, we have fallen woefully short in the last 2 decades and that is for certain.  The good things is that a few really good years coupled wiour history can get us back to the top.  Easier said than done.

Not meaning to do an editorial comment, but looking at the DePaul writeup - any "expert" that has David Booth at forward  on their 50 on 50 starting 5 while omitting Terry Cummings isn't exactly earning my faith in his judgement....

The last 20, IMO were so pathetic that we don't deserve to be on that list anymore. We have no business being tied w a program that won back to back national championships.

Clearly, the author is looking more at empty stats than actual accomplishment when he listed his star players. Any SJ's fan with a clue knows that Felipe Lopez isn't an all time great.

Jayson Williams, Lavor Postell, Erick Barkley, Mel Davis & Marcus Hatten were all far better than him.

Anyone else notice that there was no reference to the 1999 Elite 8 team? 1999 and 2000 were very fun and exciting years with the 1999 Elite 8 run falling 3 points shy of the Final Four and winning the BET in 2000. Those teams were probably the best the school has had since the 80's
