Chris Mullin's reflection concerning Beast history

I didn't see this posted anywhere - an interesting quote in cbssports from Chris looking back (in 2010) at the early days of the Big East:

"But that's all gone by the wayside now. The Big East has become what was, a casualty of conference realignment. It was a slow death, really, beginning in 2005 with the football expansion, and ending with teams leaving one by one until Thursday, when the expected mass exodus was announced.

And that does it. The once mighty Big East will be no more, and, now a dinosaur, former legend Chris Mullin summed up just how much the Big East meant in its glory days.

"On the West Coast, it was incredible how many kids, when I first went out there, because of the Big East TV package, kids would rush home and watch games at 4 o'clock," Mullin said in 2010. "They would ask me about Willie Glass and Walter Berry. It was incredible. They're not kids anymore, obviously, but they asked about St. John's, and not just St. John's but the Big East in general. The whole thing was unique at the time, the timing of the whole thing. We were very lucky to be part of it then, the Big East Conference."

SO SAD

What is sad about it.  We were just in front of others at that time.  It was the mid 80's.  Its 2013 now.  Everyone is on tv, internet or some form where kids can watch.  Its saturated now.  Thats life.  Nothing 'sad' about it.

The sad thing was that we were stuck in a piece of $hit conf. Those were good days though, basketball was solid, great rivalries. Things changed when Miami joined and the obvious changes later on. The rebirth with Conf USA teams was great though. It was a good run though (much more good than bad). We have been hoping for this day for as long as I have posted on message boards. It's an exciting new chapter for the basketball schools.
