My thoughts and prayers to you and your family Coach
When you're a kid from New York and you do it in New York, that lasts forever!

Very sad. I met a few of Lavin's family members in San Fran, including his brother. My prayers go out to Coach's family. Very hard losing a parent.

Losing a parent is always a most difficult time as many on this site can relate.  Condolences to the Lavin family.

Isn't that the truth. I lost my dad to cancer in 1966, and my mother to a heart attack in 1998. :'(
RIP Cap :'( Keep strong Coach. Your father may be gone physically, but he will always remain in your heart and mind.

I suggest we chip in and make a contribution in honor of the Coach Lavin's Dad from the fans on this web site who care. If there is support , I will front the money and you can mail me your check. I suggest 10 dollars contribution but you can make it more or less as you wish. Do I hear a second?

read the obits posted in Rumble in the Garden and Cappy sounds like a teacher you would always remember.  A person truly dedicated to his students and profession.  I would have been happy to have been in his classes--RIP

Thoughts and prayers are with Coach Lavin and his family.
Coach has had a very tough stretch over the last couple of years between his own illness and the passing of his dad.
Hope he gains strength from all of us who are keeping him and his family in our prayers.

QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's head coach Steve Lavin offered the following statement on the passing of his father, Albert "Cap" Lavin, 82.

"We are grateful for the heartfelt encouragement, prayers and support received since our father's passing. The thoughtful sentiments and caring messages we received via text, Twitter, e-mail and voicemail from friends, current players, former players, colleagues and college basketball fans have helped to give our family an emotional lift during a challenging time in our lives," said Lavin. "Moving forward, it will now be the inspiring memories of my father that will serve as a catalyst to pursue better ways to navigate the 'bittersweet miracle that is life'."

So Coach will be back from San Francisco on Sunday, and be on the bench for Wednesday's game against USF.
