Pre-Season Big East Player of the Year
« on: October 23, 2013, 03:50:47 PM »
2013 stats are in parenthesis.

My vote goes to McDermott.   I don't doubt that defenses are better in the BE than the Missouri Valley Conf, but the guy is still 6'8, he'll get his shot off.  And, he will have to carry Creighton, so he'll have a green-light to shoot as often as he can.   I don't see his numbers dropping that much, if at all.

Agree about McDermott, just curious why you listed assists and steals for Karr and not rebounds.

Not intentional, just overlooked it Moose, fixed now.   Was trying to highlight some of the stats that make the best case for each player.

Going to be interesting.

I think McDermott will be fine in terms of putting up numbers but I'm not sure Creighton can finish top 2 in the BE and the BE POY has come from the the team that finished first or second every single year as far as I can remember.

So will the BE coaches change their voting pattern to vote for Dougie. Or will the BE really have a player in their league named a 1st team All American but not be the POY in the league.

I was thinking the same thing when they revived the 'best pro in the big east right now' thread.
Is there an eventual NBA starter in the conference right now?    I'm not so sure there is.

But from a purely college ball standpoint, McDermott is as good as it gets I think.   He's going to end his career with 3 straight 1st team All American honors.   That's a legit accomplishment.

It's McDermott than everyone else. George Beamon  could be on this list

Our guy.  Think Gardner has a chance to really flourish this year but won't stay on the court long enough to build up the numbers.

McDermott wins even if he doesn't have the best stats. Everyone else gets a fairer shake from 2014-15 forward.

I'll vote for Harrison with one man guarding him this year a opposed to the Creighton kid who will be double teamed from the first second of conference play.

It's going to be McDermott unless someone else steps up in a big way that we cannot reasonably predict right now.  McDermott is an excellent scorer, polished, tourney experience, and is the runaway favorite here.

Fair point but I think the rules get thrown out in the new conference.

Think D-lo will be better then hardy was. I think Hardy should have won it. If we are top 4, think d-lo wins

Why wouldn't everyone be getting a fair shake this year? Isn't it the coaches who vote these awards? If they do McDermott is on one of only 3 teams new to the league leaving 7 votes from the old guard. If anything it might be slightly tougher for McD to win IMHO.
