I dont go back to bootsys and them.

It might be crazy but I think it could be D'lo. I think for all the slack he gets for putting up shots that he really knows how to play the game. I only watched the first 10 minutes of the game against gtown (first time ive ever done that) but he had a box out that was so good he forced an over the back on a gtown big. No one else is doing that, no one else on our team is really smart.

I would nominate him for this team. Not saying much though.

That Barkley, Artest, Bootsy team was basically the last time I enjoyed a St. John's basketball season. Well, probably the Hatten years right after that.. point being, it has sucked for a long time.
Believe this is why there is often a disconnect between younger and older posters on both boards. The Hatten years were mediocre basketball with no NCAA tourney invites. Older posters were around for the Lou C years where in 24 yrs we made 19 ncaas and 5 nits .Not being critical boo just making an observation.

Don't disagree however Hatten  did make a tourney and won NIT. I enjoyed Hatten and I was around for "glory years"

Mullin and Jackson would be 1 and 2 but unfortunately for us they go back further than 20 years per original question.

Uh oh, my bad, another reason for disconnect is older posters short term memory deficits. Was thinking last ncaa was with Artest, forgot we made it the nest year also. Guess boo is entitled to enjoy an ncaa and nit yr in 2 yr Hatten career. But still believe my point is valid-older posters for the most part have higher expectations for the program.

I agree but the two year Hatten experince beat everything up until Hardy year. Was not much to choose from but I still look back fondly on it considering everything that has happened since.

Just wondering, who do you guys feel was the player with the best "basketball IQ" to play at St johns in say the last 20 yrs? not best player.

Good question. My answer might surprise some but I am going with Barkley

Agree with Barkley, but I think Bootsy is right there with him, if not higher. I remember watching Bootsy in the first half of the 98=99 season.
He didn't force anything.

Played a careful game, and took good shots. He was also probably the best offensive rebounder for a 2 guard that we've ever had. Early on, you barely noticed him, but by the end of the game, he filled up the stat sheet. The guy just knew where to be on offense, and truth be told, became a strong defender under Jarvis.
Bootsy was a remarkable player...very smart and efficient...always appreciated fact that he would get an offensive board and put it back up without any wasted motion...great player

I have to give it to Cedric Jackson who got the hell out of dodge I mean Norm and clearly increased his skills and value as a player to a point most of us thought was impossible

  Barckley last 20 years...Bootsy a close second..

I still think Barckley got fouled by Scoonie Penn in the Ohio State Game that cost us a final 4.
