None of this should shock anyone. Unless you are one of those people who had their head so far up Lavin's arse that you could not possibly think something was going on. Many of us were saying how erratic Lavin was acting. From the crazy lineups, rotations, benching's and suspensions, it was clear that something was going on between Lavin and the players. This is almost starting to resemble what happened to Matt Doherty at UNC. Heck, the people who were telling me that things weren't great between Lavin and the players also pointed out that some of the players in question were not easy to deal with. The problem with that is of course is Lavin picked these guys and had to figure out how too make it work with some of them. It now turns out he couldn't even make the one guy he  seemed to love happy.

good post.

When you put it like that, your spot on, Obekpa suspended before the season even began. It all does seem to make much better sense now. That little win streak we had in the middle of the year might be looked back on as one of the worst things to happen. It may have bought Lav one more year to REALLY destroy any semblance we have as a program.

I really hope a scathing article hits the papers in the morning.

To me this is worse then the Jarvis and Norm years. I thought those bad years were behind us. We already will be a bad team next year. If Jordan and Green leave, it will rival the sex capades scandal.
Ok, there won`t be a scandal, but the roster will be.

Harrison, Pointer, Branch, Jones, and Balamou, oh and Joey. Am I missing anyone besides the walk-ons?
Why would Adonis join this mess?
That`s 5 scholarship players, hoping Joey doesn`t get one.   Just wow.

need to bring in Mullin to have some kind of capacity to revive the program
Mullin is a front office guy. as crazy as it sounds because of the great job mark Jackson has been doing at golden State talk is that ownership is not enamored with him and might seek a change. I know it seems Mark is an NBA guy but maybe he would return to help his alma mater before his next NBA job.

To be fair, no one thought Jackson could handle the job here 5 years ago. Mullin was not only a great player, but he had highest IQ for the game I've seen at St.John's. At this point, it's hard to know just how much of a mess there will be to clean up.

If it's a do-over, bringing in a local star might help land some NY players again. We were gifted last year, but we were also soft, and kinda lazy. A NY team should play harder than we do.

A lot of fans in the Bay Area don't actually think Jackson is a good coach. And even if I thought he was good, I'd still prefer a guy who's actually done some recruiting. If the Warriors blow these games down the stretch and end up in 9th place, he's a goner.

Yes but college is a different situation, no need for a front office type like the Knicks could do with Phil Jackson. And it is 5 years later and we now know Jackson can definitely coach. Would probably be a great hire.

What was Mark Jackson relationship with St. Johns like before he took the Warriors gig?

I have a hard time believing he wouldn't be a good recruiter

Mullin as AD, Jax as the coach. Two SJU alumnis, and Mullin has front office experience.
Yeah I know, it`s a pipe dream. Mullin wouldn`t leave the King front office job for college, would he?

Imagine Chris Mullin and Mark Jackson in a recruits home. They would be in awe.
Could the AD go on the recruiting trail, or only the coach and his staff is allowed?

Mullin would be a better recruiter than Jackson -- he's not obnoxious.

Today's players don't know or care about Mullin and Jackson.   Recruiting is a game of effort and grinding.   Do they want to gravel for a HS kid at this point?  Are they going to spend all their weekends in the offseason in HS gyms?

I don't know the answer, but it's a question that would need answering.

Kids might not know who Mullin is but everyone knows who Michael Jordan is. Maybe Jordan as HC with Larry Bird and Magic as assistants and Mullin as DOBO. That would restore our once proud program to its former glory. And if not Michael Jordan we need to take a long look at Tim Cluess.

Can he coach? Why is there talk of being pushed out the door? We need to move on from this and look for someone else.

I agree with Desco, this isn't the early 90's. Having the package wouldn't matter to help restore this place.

Where will they be in 2015-2016:
Lavin-Broadcaster for ESPN and involved in a nasty lawsuit with Michael Kay who claims that Lavin stole his headset as it was the larget one in the world and one of a kind.

Keady-drunkenly wanders onto the court during 1st round of CIB tournament vs Siena. Bobby Hurley jr claims that it is ok he used to be an asst coach here and ref immediately hits SJU with a tech.

Obepka-Starting Center for Final Four Baylor. Averaged 10 points 10 boards and 5 blocks. 3,176 posts on various SJU boards claiming kid from CTK averageing 3 points 2 boards and 5 fouls is better.

Sampson-15th man on whatever team Lebron is on. Going with Cleveland

Sanchez-starting center on Utah Jazz NBDL team

Pointer-ultimate fighter

Greene-sleeping on Carmine's couch

Harrison- doing well playing over seas and moves in with Mike Rice and filming Real World angry guys

Jordan- averaged 19, 7 and 6 for National champion Kentucky. Him and Cal are forced to skip town immediately after One shining moment as NCAA officials storm the court in riot gear. Kentucky is put on 1,000 year probation.

Hooper- filming Good Will Hunting part 2

God Gift-free throw shooting coach, auditioning for role as Clay Davis in movie version of the Wire

Bourgault-Porn Star

Branch-still trying to figure out why Greene played more than him

Felix-plotting to punch Lavin in the groin for wasting a year of his eligibility

Garrett-closer for the Mets. Unfortunately the Mets never have a lead so he mostly sits in the bullpen practicing his jumper
