KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP)—Kenny Anderson was back on an NBA bench Wednesday, wearing a collared shirt and holding a notebook.

At 37, his playing days are over.

He hopes his coaching days are just beginning.

The former NBA guard and New York City high school great is an assistant coach this week for one of the six teams at the league’s predraft camp at the Disney complex near Orlando. Just like the players he’s coaching, Anderson is trying to catch the eye of NBA coaches and executives, looking to parlay this week’s exposure into a job at the next level.

“I love being on the sideline,” Anderson said. “I’m playing through them. I’ve got to calm down every now and then and remember that I’m in coaching now. I love it.”

Anderson was the coach of a CBA franchise in Atlanta this past season, plus works with an elite AAU team in South Florida, where he now resides. He played for nine NBA teams over a 14-year career after leaving Georgia Tech, finishing his pro days with averages of 12.6 points and 6.1 assists.

“It was my calling,” Anderson said.

Being a point guard, he was a coach on the floor. He thinks that experience can translate well to the sideline.

“In time, we’ll see what happens,” Anderson said

Kenny Anderson was the best H.S. basketball player I have seen play and would love to see him back home in Queens. I wonder if High School kids these days even know who he is

i saw him on jim rome.  kenny said he wants to coach and be on the bench for a college team.  stj wouldn't be a fit at all after a few years with a mid major.  he coached some prospects last year i believe.

Since when is a shift from DOB @ St John's to DOB @ Marist a "promotion"?  Sounds like Will might not have been wanted around Union and Utopia any more.

Lanier was not the DOB at St. John´s. It was (it is) Billy Singleton.

Bingo gonzalo... Lanier was basically the "gopher boy" off the staff. And did a great job in that capacity. His influence regarding decisions(perpetuated by a few posters on BEB) - such as playing less games at MSG - was absolute nonsense..  ::) .. He was a very nice kid who did a good job while at SJU helping out the staff. He also did a fine job as the restaurant host at the Sly Foxx on weekends..  ;D .. Good luck at marist will!

Great Idea or Rod Strickland , Tony Campbell ,
Attack basketball, pressure defense, 40 minutes of hell ... Early on it might be 30 minutes of hell, then 10 minutes of what the hell are you doing?"
