So many games in Queens, I thought Mullin wanted to use the Garden more.

MSG costs a pretty penny.
Our staff is spending a lot and the return might not justify it this year.
I agree its too few games but I think its temporary.

I think this is pretty accurate. Without any direct knowledge I would assume the move going forward is to have more game at MSG when the program is ready for it. They might like the advantage of a sold out CA as opposed to a two thirds empty MSG and I can't disagree. In a couple of years when this team and program is where we think it can be and we will then move more of our games to the garden for bigger crowds.

I'm not happy there are so few games at CA but lets look at the 4 BE games at CA:

Creighton- while they came out in droves for when Dougie was there for the BE Tournament how many are coming to NY for New Years.  Oh and we cant play at MSG on NYE anyway.

Butler-  Maybe this is the only example of the game we could switch over.  But its the smallest school in the Big East.  Likely the smallest traveling support.  Oh besides us :)

DePaul-  No way in hell

Xavier- I've seen funerals more lively than their mid week game at MSG last year.

I agree, it's just too bad CA is what it is

If we can pack CA for those games, as we have done for some other BE games, it will be worth it.  By the way, I went to the Butler game 2 years ago when we crushed them.  Granted Butler was bad that year, but they still were a well-known team from the Stevens years, and that game didn't draw at all.  The only positive was that I recall Dunham couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, quite the opposite of what transpired at CA last year.  So maybe we should have scheduled them at MSG LOL.

Xavier has earned the Garden. If you only reward two old BE foes then everything negative said about the new BE as being small time is confirmed.

Small time is CA.

If you want to sell the Garden and Rivalries you need to play there.  First thing is to reward programs who have earned it from consistent play.

The Crowds will get bigger once the teams are consistently good and the play entertaining.

Your issue is Xavier over Seton Hall, I take it, Fordham?  I think that is a reasonable position, despite the lack of crowds at those games (which were important ones) the past few years.  I don't get why we gave Seton Hall the Garden this year.  The other teams all make sense.  I don't think the "local" flavor or the NYC connections with the Hall's squad should matter.

Perhaps they wanted to change it up for a year to see how the Hall -- with some juice -- draws.

My guess is it is based purely on who will do a better job of filling seats at MSG.  Makes sense that another local team may do better (esp. one that always b!tches that they have to play at Carnesecca, so let's see if their fans come out).

Xavier drew only 6600 to MSG last year--don't think that pays the rent.  Seton has wanted MSG since  the Gonzo days and could sell some tickets as it should with the proximity of the schools and the head to head recruiting.  SJU/SHU should be a premier rivalry in BE and I college BB.

You don't reward teams because they "want" something or that they "might"draw.  Seton Hall has been to exactly 3 NCAA's since PJ left after 1994, that is 3 in 21 years.  They have 3 coaches in that span, George Blaney, Bobby Gonzalez and Kevin Willard who have coached 12 years total without an NCAA appearance between the three of them.  Not one NCAA appearance between those 3.  Keep in mind at no time has any of their coaches have to inherit a NCAA sanctioned program.  They have been completely irrelevant for more than 2 decades now into their 3rd.  Their one fleeting moment was when they landed a highly touted NYC kid who came with his HS coach and this HS coach turned out to be completely unqualified as most knew already.

Xavier has been infinitely better both on the court and recruiting.  This mythical rivalry with SHU because they have a few NYC kids just befuddles me.  And the attendance for most of the BE games even against the traditional rivals has not been great anyway.
