Head Coach Norm Roberts:
On the progress of Anthony Mason Jr.:
"Hopefully today we'll have him doing some scrimmage with contact on the half-court. He's been doing non-contact things the last two days. He will not play tomorrow, the doctors said he can start some light contact now, but they don't think it'll be good for him to play tomorrow."

For the first time all season, the Red Storm got back to a full 16-man roster at Wednesday's practice, as Anthony Mason Jr. and Rob Thomas joined their teammates on the floor at Carnesecca Arena.
Mason Jr. has played only 20 minutes this season while recovering from a high ankle sprain, originally suffered on Nov. 3 during a closed scrimmage, and injured again on Nov. 28 vs. LIU.
Thomas, ruled a partial-partial qualifier by the NCAA last September, took the last exam of his NCAA-mandated "year in residence" on Wednesday and was therefore allowed to practice. Thomas also had to overcome a severe knee injury suffered last March 26, and will be eligible to compete in games when fall grades are in

The St. John's Red Storm return to action Saturday as they welcome the Niagara Purple Eagles to Carnesecca Arena. It will be St. John's first game since a 66-47 loss to Miami on Decemebr 2nd.
In a game that was a true test for the Red Storm, they came up short against the Hurricanes, and are looking to redeem themselves at the expense of the Purple Eagles.
The Purple Eagles have been a tough matchup for the Red Storm over the past few years and this one will be a battle.
At 4-3, Niagara has a lot to prove. It comes in with one of the best scorers in the nation, 6-foot-4 wing Charron Fisher, and freshman guard Anthony Nelson is one of the best assist men in the country with 7.3 helpers per game.
Scouting
:
St. John's
The key for St. John's should be controlling the game's tempo. The Purple Eagles like to get up and down the floor and are averaging more than 70 points a game.
To manage the tempo, look for St. John's to use guards Eugene Lawrence and Larry Wright to pressure the Purple Eagles guards.
Lawrence should have the ability to keep up with the guards due to the weight he lost over the summer. The more aggressive both Lawrence and Wright are on defense, the easier it will be for St. John's to get easy transition points.
Also look for forwards Justin Burrell and D.J. Kennedy to bounce back. They've had almost 10 days to get over the Miami loss and learn from it. Burrell should be able to impose his athleticism on the inside and get double digit rebounds and Kennedy should have a chance to get his mid-range game going.
If that won't be enough, [DB Mason Jr.]Anthony Mason Jr.[/db] should be back on the floor too. Mason Jr. has been hampered by an ankle injury that has kept him out of all but one game this season.
The long lay-off for the Red Storm definitely helped him and he should give the team a boost off the bench.
Scouting
:
Niagara
At home, the Purple Eagles are a tough out at 4-0, but on the road they are 0-3 and it doesn't bode well for them to be playing this one at Carnesecca Arena.
Offensively, the Purple Eagles are guard oriented as Charron Fisher, Stanley Hodge and Tyrone Lewis all average in double figures.
The Red Storm will have to keep an eye on Fisher at all times. At 6-foot-4, Fisher is a big guard who will put it up whenever because they use him in the paint as well.
He's averaging 27 points a game and has attempted twice as many shots than anyone else on the team. Hodge and Lewis come in averaging around 14 points a game and fill valuable roles.
Where the Purple Eagles suffer is at the big men positions. While junior Benson Egemonye is averaging close to six rebounds a game, his big man buddy, Demetrius Williamson, struggles.
In the same amount of time as Egemonye, Williamson averages just two rebounds a game. This forces Fisher to do more by going to the boards (8.6) and takes away from his offensive game.
Prediction
:
On the road, the Purple Eagles struggle and this game should continue that trend. In the past, Niagara has given the Red Storm trouble, but its lack of depth behind Fisher will hurt them.
If the Red Storm lock down on defense and keep the Purple Eagles in the 55-61 point range, another victory should be in sight.
Final Score
St. John's 70
Niagara 58
