Phil was a 1956 graduate of the old Brooklyn Center. He was a decorated sports writer of over six decades. He authored dozen of books, mostly about baseball but he was one of the first sport writers to cover the then Lew Alcindor in the early '60's. He also authored a book with Kareem in the '70's.He was a native of Brooklyn and a graduate of Lafayette High School. He passed at the age of 80 and it all started as a student writing for the Downtowner on Schermerhorn St.

Phil could flat out write.  He did not have an agenda, just the love of baseball, for the most part.  I enjoyed reading his work when I was growing up.

Was a great Dodger fan. He wrote  a column for The World Telegram & Sun,  wishing his son would turn out to "Be The Man That Sandy Was " about the great Koufax, who was only a few years behind him at Lafayette. If you get a chance look it up. In 1965 I believe. Great read for all the disgruntled Brooklyn Dodger fans out there.
