People on this board are being way to critical of Mussini.  This year he was asked to do more than he can on, a beyond awful team.   The kid has an intangible that you cant just teach and that is high basketball IQ.  He will be our 4th guard which will suit him well, and will be playing off the ball which is where he can shine.  He is limited with quickness which hurts his defense, but has he gets older and stronger, he can use those smarts to put himself in a better defensive position as opposed to playing back on his heels where he just cant recoup quick enough to get back on the ball.  Its almost where he is going to have to learn to anticipate the play before the play happens to help him get better defensively.  However that is the best part of him, he is smart enough to do that over time.

People are overly critical of Mussini because they were sold a bill of goods. It turns out he is not particularly skilled and has the disadvantage of being physically an oompa loompa. OTOH people are overly protective of Mussini because of his pigmentation. Thus was it ever. Case in point, he does not seem to me to have a particularly high BB IQ or any sort of heightened court awareness. I think he's sort of a dumb player, even taking into consideration his age and that he's a furriner. Hopefully he grows out of that and is spending a couple of hours a day in the weight room and another couple of hours eating pasta.

I personally think the only two major pieces on our future team that were on this past year's team are Sima and Yakwe. Mussini is a huge liability on D and on O he can't create his own space to have enough time for his release. It has me thinking what happened from the beginning of the year to the end of the year with Mussini? I don't remember him being any faster..I feel like he was just making more shots earlier in the season. Hope he has a great offseason. He NEEDS it if he wants meaningful minutes.

Non Conf: 14.0 PPG, 39.1 FG%, 33.3  3-PT%
Big East Play: 8.5 PPG, 28.8 FG%, 28.0 3-PT%

His games against Wagner, Chaminade, Syracuse and Xavier made his overall numbers look better than they were (Not that they were that good to begin with) In those games he shot 19/30  (63%) from 3. Considering his final numbers...this should tell you how much he struggled.

You guys are putting way to much into stats.  Stats can be very misleading.  I am not arguing that he struggled against better competition, but as I stated before he was asked to do things against better competition that he was not capable of doing.   The guys the staff are bringing in by either through the HS level or transfers, show they are recruiting over him.  He is going to find a roll by the way the team is being assembled and it looks as though more of a role player, where he should be.  Lets not forget, our very own Fran F, called him a mid major player when first seeing him, before saying he was a good pick up.  I am not one to just give out praise for a kid signing with us because we needed bodies, but if if does work out for him, the staff will see it sooner than later and someone else will be brought in to get the job done.

To call him a dumb player is so far from the truth, but that is your opinion Foad.  If you want to point to dumb players, I would point more towards Sean Evans and Sir Dom for most of their careers.  Same can be said for  Jakaar Sampson.

After reading these comments about Rico, some people may find a horse's head in bed with them.  The horse is dead on this subject for year one.  wait until after the first 1/3 of 2016/17 for a further condemnation.

I agree those were dumb players. That they were dumb doesn't make Mussini smart.

Jakarr can spell NBA. Mussini couldn't if you spotted him the en and the bee.

It is pretty amazing the time spent discussing Mussini who will probably be the 4th guard next year. The way I see it is he will come in shoot some threes, if he makes a couple he will get more run. If he shoots like he did last year he won't play much. Ponds and Lovett are the future of the team.

He's a zone buster, maybe. If he wants to be more than that, he needs to take this summer really seriously. These discussions on what he can do as a 2 guard are pointless until we see the work he's put in. When he was playing the point in the BE, he struggled. When they asked Ellison to run the point, and put Mussini off the ball, he didn't exactly light it up. Not much changed. He still couldn't get by anyone. He still couldn't move himself enough to get open. He still could guard anyone. He missed plenty of open shots this year. What will change that for 16-17?

I don't think much will change other than his minutes, but again not sure why Mussini takes up so many more posts than any other player?

SJU fan base will always have a soft spot for the white kid.
The fact that he is italian only makes it more so.  And lord help us if there's a sf named Murphy or Obrien who ends up here.  Having him and Mussini on the team together might be the end of sju basketball.  Our fans would faint from the vapors.

I don't think that is why. Point guards (and combos forced to play pg) that weren't stars have been whipping boys on SJU forums since Showtime stopped being Showtime. Cedric Jackson,  Eugene Lawrence, Malik  Boothe, Phil Greene, and now Feddy Mussini.  Our fans have actually been remarkably consistent on this.

The irony, of course, is when we run into the junior and senior versions of skilled player like Mussini the same posters wonder why we can't land kids like that.

I think the reason is Mussini got a lot of  positive hype initially. Early season he had nice numbers, and the fan base thought he was great. As the season progressed, the competition became tougher and his play went south , that  is when and why many of the fan base turned.

Yea, I know.
I was saying it tounge in cheek,  if there was an italian and an irish guy on the team at the same time, peoples heads would explode.    It would be the 1950s all over again.

We should be so lucky. Full employment, a republican president, a well defined communist enemy and Marilyn Monroe in the full bloom of her beauty and as yet unsullied by Kennedy sperm. What do we have now? A service economy, President Dumbo, a shadow enemy that spawned the Patriot Act and drone murder, safe spaces cocooning the stupidest generation since man stopped living in the trees and pigs like Lena Dunham and Amy Schumer dumbing down hotness. No god damn it. The whole thing is shit. Non serviam

Where was I. Oh yeah. So I have no problem with white people rooting for white players. I do though have a problem with them pretending the white players don't stink. I have a problem with the same people who trashed D'Angelo Harrison because of his hairdo calling Mussini the best shooter since Chris Mullin. Because he's not. He's not even the best shooter since Terrance Mullin.

White scholarship players since 2000: Tim Doyle, Phil Wait, Max Hooper, Liam Biesty, Phil Missere, Mike Cavataio. Not a four year player in the bunch. Barely a player in the bunch, Doyle and Missere excepted. No wonder the red and white club is all hot and bothered for Mussini, despite the fact that he’s as tall as Frankie Alagia, as agile as Rob Thomas, jumps as high as Tom Bayne and shoots threes as well as did the freshman Phil Greene. Doctor Frankenstein couldn’t work with those parts. My boon companion Poison is spot on: let us see what sort of shape Mussini shows up in this fall. If he spent his summer in the gym it will demonstrate a mental toughness and intelligence that he did not display on the court last year. If he shows up looking like Liza Minnelli, which is what he showed up looking like last year, then he has a bright future in Milan.
