The uproar from some people is quite amusing.

He wears the jersey with pride, plays hard, and has upside. Hope he lives in the gym and listens to everything CM tells him to do. The competition for minutes between Amar and Darien should bring the best out of each of them.

The Livingston thing looks bad.

Why in the world have him visit if the higher ups at the school were not prepared to accept him?  And I can tell you staff members were certain he was on board.

Because staff thought they could push it thru. I kill admin all the time but I applaud them for taking a stance and saying no. Shocking they did but props to them having some oversight

The administration shouldn't have allowed the visit then.

This is not to say the staff is right but it is clear the administration was not comfortable so don't waste our time.

Did the admin know?  The staff seems to do and ask things later.

What an awful move. I cant see how anyone Can Think This is a good idea.

Love this. Alimakeawish once again on track to graduate as the best white player since Bob Werdann. Plus it keeps the memory of Steve Lavin alive in our hearts. I don't see a downside.

Downside would be if he actually plays

You will eat your words. I see dagger threes from the stretch four.

I thought German kid had that job. Should have just kept Jones

There's an old Italian proverb: the German may be a good fellow, but it is best to hang him just in case.

I would have been happy with one or the other. Freshmen are boring.

The only way it turns out well is if Mullin and his staff can turn him into a player that is able to really contribute. If he can be Donald Emanuel by his senior year, it's a nice story. As it stands now, he's probably not good enough to get a lot of minutes if his play doesn't take a leap forward. The guy is a big dude, but he has terrible footwork under the basket offensively, he passes poorly, he doesn't know to play d without fouling. These are the areas where he needs to improve. I'm more wishful than hopeful, but wouldn't it be great if he plays like he did against SU every game.

Remember, I said wishful. I understand how unlikely all of this is. But still, let's see what the staff can do with him.

Know about his visit or legal issues or both?

Bottom line is a school uses an official visit for a kid especially a 5th year transfer it should be because he has a solid offer...otherwise especially this late it is a waste of time for both.

Furthermore the idea that Livingston may have said no or didn't feel right is pure comedy...

I don't think higher ups knew he visited until after the fact.

We could use a Donald Emanuel type, someone happy to come off the bench and provide big man bench minutes. Amar needs to be more of a Ty Grant, do the dirty work and play tough defense, get tough rebounds. He has the most solid body of he Yakwe, Sima, and Owens. But the stupid mistakes have killed him, taking 3s from Kew Gardens, leaving his feet and making a turnover pass.

The front court needs someone with weight so teams don't just push Owens, Sima, and Yakwe around. Amar gives us that. Most soph bigs are awful to watch.  He's a ten minute player who gets more when he's on like the  Syracuse game. He has some upside if he can fill some holes and he's a fantastic teammate accepts his role.

Love Amars attitude. But, I agree, Jones would have made more sense IMO. Welcome back .

This staff must've really had no other options if they had to bring Ali back. Jones would've been so much better for this team next year. Very disappointing as it's a waste of a roster spot.

A very strange move: love the kid, hate his game.

Amar seems to be a great teammate, but who needs a 6'9 kid who hangs outside, hoists up 25 footers, and shoots 28% from three?

Can't play D, poor rebounder, and had the most head scratching turnovers on a team that raised turning the ball over to an art form.

About the only way this makes sense is  because he helped recruit both Mussini and Freudenberg with his unrelenting love of St. John's and all things New York.  Might be a sign that, with our apparent inability to land any U.S. recruit of import for 2017, we are going to continue going after European talent hard.

Someone has to set screens for all these ball handlers and shooters. Amar at a developed 240 is a better option than Owens flexing on Twitter at 180.  He should be able to get some really  good looks on jumpers with defenses scrambling to contain Lovett and Ponds after the screen. He looks terrible when he has to rush it even the slightest.  I like his potential on a faster paced offense with more options to space the floor.

I've seen flashes of Euro-step in his game.   That counts for 2 points...

Welcome back Amar.... bring your A-game... whatever that is.

I don't think Amar is going to go from lousy rebounder and terrible in the paint to great rebounder and crafty in the paint. Emanuel is much more likely to be his ceiling than Grant. If we wanted Grant, we should have recruited a big body with soft hands.

Honestly Amar is a great kid with a great attitude and it seems like everyone on the team loves him. He may not be the best player we could have gotten with this scholarship but I am very happy he is back. A team player and a good role model for the younger kids.
