Amar Returns

Honestly Amar is a great kid with a great attitude and it seems like everyone on the team loves him. He may not be the best player we could have gotten with this scholarship but I am very happy he is back. A team player and a good role model for the younger kids.

We aren't playing 13 kids minutes anyway. Why not have your 10 minutes players be a great teammate. I like Amar a ton and am not upset at all. Hope the kid contributes this year.

Bringing  Amar back makes it look like we are striking out w our 17 recruits. And that is concerning.

The only way this is a good idea is if the staff can coach Amar up to a significant contributor. If he returns, and he's the same player that we saw this year, this would then be a poor decision for both sides. It looks to me like we tried to upgrade and failed, and he tried to downgrade, and no one wanted him.

He had chances to leave he was weighing. We asked him back. I don't think it's hard decison to return. Why sit out. Who knows what next year brings. Maybe he graduates early. Maybe he goes home. Maybe he sticks around all 4 years. We went to him and asked him to come back

Good job by Matt getting him back from Marist

Doesn't make sense for the kid to come back. Why come here and ride the bench when he could get real minutes at a school like Marist.

He was visiting a friend at Marist, not there on a recruiting trip.

About the only way this makes sense is  because he helped recruit both Mussini and Freudenberg with his unrelenting love of St. John's and all things New York.  Might be a sign that, with our apparent inability to land any U.S. recruit of import for 2017, we are going to continue going after European talent hard.

I don't expect him to see the court next year except in garbage time.  (And I'd like to think that garbage time for us next year will be when we're up by 30, not down by 30).

Who wins the backup PF battle next season, Amar or Darien?

You cannot underestimate how difficult it is to bring in top talent with a 7 win team last year. The top players will come when we start winning. Everyone is saying we are striking out with top talent for '17. Well of course we are top kids don't want to play for a team that was basically a joke last year for most of the season. We have to win some games first and then the top kids for will give us a shot, that's how it works. U get that initial bump because the staff is new and exciting now that has worn off and you need to win to get players.

Last year Alibegowith showed flashes of brilliance within a broader body of incompetence. There's no reason to think he won't improve and we've had worse 10th men. His problem is that the German is a newer flashy version of himself.

That's what I argue. RF is a 6 9 shooter. What we really needed was a guy like Livingston. A strong, tough big w an inside game.

Too much conversation for a 10th or 11th man in the rotation.
Amar won't make or break our season. 

And '17 will take care of itself.   Somebody's going to be unhappy and leave.  That's just life.

Talk about a scholarship wasted ...

Amar is far from the worst player we have had. He seems like a nice kid and certainly someone you want to root for. I am sure he will work hard this summer and get better. However, we need a PF who wants and will defend and rebound. Amar thinks he is a shooter and playmaker. Amar >>> the player Joey Delerosa is. Joey Delerosa knows and understands his role, doesn't shoot or touch the ball, and tries to defend. Amar comes into a game like he is instant offense. If Amar plays 5 minutes, he certainly will get called for a moving screen and miss at-least 2 3's.  I would much rather have Joey Delerosa. I know how much he stinks, and it's not close. This scholarship should have been given or split among the walk-ons. Or giving another 2/3 star player a shot. We know what Amar is. And what he is wont help us.

That ship has sailed. Maybe Curtis Johnson has some eligibility left.
