Why does everyone take it as gospel that Amar was forced out? Mullin, Slice and St. Jean would never say that directly to an insider, someone around the university, or a reporter. I think it was more about Amar's desire to play than the info being passed around suggests.

Amar probably saw the writing on the wall with Owens finishing his redshirt and the staff recruiting Clark and Livingston. With Livingston out of the picture, there was a need for his services and minutes available.

I don't think the staff forced him out, or even asked him to leave, but I would guess that they were honest with him about the kind of playing time that he was looking at for next season.

That's my guess too.  When you're told you aren't going to play and you are a high D-1 athlete, I think most people would want to go elsewhere and prove, with playing time, that you were good enough to play.

That is a really depressing scenario. So the 7th man on the worst BE team ever figured the team would be improved and to get PT he should transfer. Then he says wait a minute this team is not going to be that I good afterall, I will probably play. Very bleak outlook for us if this was indeed the scenario.

You know better.  This type of chatter and exchange of information happens.

The chatter happens, but this situation is as unreliable as who broke up with who in a relationship. A lot of implications are made and inferences are drawn. It's not as reliable as info on recruiting or other basketball matters. Can you picture Mullin or Slice telling someone "We asked him to transfer" or Amar saying "They made me leave"?

Now we've got posters complaining the staff mishandled this when nobody knows how their conversation went down.

If you could have only one of the players for next year it would go:
1.Taser
2. Jones
3. Amar
We kept worst guy who also takes up a scholie for a potential extra year. No matter what "went down" , result was not good.

If you were Amar and you were confident you could get much better as an upperclassmen if given a chance to play, would you stick around after your team adds an older all-conference rebounding machine whose main appeal of weight and strength is the only thing that you have that separates you from Sima, RF, Yakwe, and Owens?  It would be foolish with Clark and Ahmed not to mention Ellison and the terrific back court squeezing your pt from the other end.

Then you see the all-conference 5th-year senior isn't coming, and heading back to your only friends and basically everything you know in  foreign country doesn't look so bad.

If I were Amar I would choose a better haircut then transfer to a Miami school where I would sit at end of the bench and then bang lots of hot girls

Jones stinks also. If jones scores 10 and the guy he is guarding scores 16, we are minus 6. Amar  for this year is fine. Amar for 2 more years taking up a scholarship is silly. We could or should have taken a chance on another 2/3 star player,  maybe that guy stinks. Maybe not. We know jones and Amar stink. Waving a towel and being a good teammate under certain circumstances can and should earn someone a scholarship. But that scholarship should not be guaranteed for 4 years and prevent a school from recruiting basketball players who can contribute to wining games.

In short spurts Jones can bring something that the rest of the team does not have. He made way more sense

Amar a great kid and loves SJU.

I wonder what the reason was that Livingston didn't come because to much pressure on the administration because he hit a cop.

If that the reason they should let it be known because schools like the Cuse and Pitino would have excepted him with no questions ask.

I am glad if they didn't sign him they brought Amar back who loves SJU

Yeah but it wouldn't have made sense for Jones. He needs to go somewhere where he'd get significant minutes. He's another one where if he was getting more than 7-10 minutes a game for us we wouldn't be a .500 team

Jones would have been the best offensive front court option on the team. I want Sima and Yakwe to get as many minutes as possible this next year so I see the bright side in it, im really not upset with our frontcourt and am pleased with the roster as is, especially for 18&19. But to say Jones should or would only garner 7-10 minutes is foolish. We would be a better team if CJ were on it.

Mase you've been waiting for four years for Jones to breakout.   He just doesn't have the skill to be a good player at this level.

I would not want him in my rotaton for any tournament caliber team.

Frontcourt doesn't need a body.......Amar a good bench and practice guy,  Unless he shows unexpected improvement he will see little time.  Some of the 6 frontcourt guys are roleplayers but their role is equal to or exceed Amar's value. Top 4 could be quite good as they complement each other.  Lets hope we play some real D

We know our team. He had a solid year with those same guys in the frontcourt.
