He just stepped down as an assistant coach of the Pistons. Announced that he will now be a New York area scout for the team.  Mullin and he are fairly close, most recently from the Kings job (the other connections are obvious). Perhaps he might be a bench guru who can slide into the "special assistant" role. Tail end of his career, would be close to home, etc

He was given a lot of the credit for the Warriors turn around as an assistant under Jackson.

When Larry Bird was coach of the Pacers, Malone was his "defense" guy.  Helped turn that team around, too.
