Malik Ellison

I'm a believer in Ellison's game. He came on strong by the end of the season. Specifically like his ability to get to the basket and play under control. Would like to see him shoot it a little more consistently and hopeful he worked on that part of his game.

And defend much better.

No doubt, Ellison had a very rough freshman year as he took time to recover from his injuries and was forced to play too many minutes against superior competition.  Despite this, his stats clearly improved towards the end of the season.

He is supposed to be a real gym rat who works constantly on his game, looks totally jacked in the team's workout photo posted on line, and has the family genes to grow even bigger and stronger still.  Would not be surprised to see him morph into a physical forward who retains the ability to slash to the hoop by his senior year.  With our changing roster and increased competition for playing time, he may not end his college career with us, but he is on an upward trajectory and will be a significantly improved player by his senior year, wherever he plays.

His father was a national POY and an NBA stalwart.  Don't sell this kid short.

Unfortunately his father's ability has nothing to do with him. Michael Jordan was the GOAT and how did his sons turn out as BB players or Magic's son for that matter or countless others. Now Dell Curry is a different story, lol.

Ellison and Mussini are not "good" players?  Compared to players on what teams? Duke and Kentucky?   They were freshman who both needed to put muscle on, learn the game, etc.  To be declaring they are not good players is ridiculous.

We were 1-18last year. Most of our guys were not good. Mussini and Ellison could improve tremendously and we could 4-14. Just because they got better doesn't mean they were good. Good means better then average. Good means winning games .
Declaring mussini and Ellison good or even decent big east players is even more ridiculous to me. Ponds is a top 50 player- he is not competing with Kentucky players he is competing with 1-18 guards.
I like Yawke I think he will be good. Not close to great this year. I like sima. I hope he is good (meaning he is as good as the player be is playing against much of the time). That was not the case last year when we played decent teams.
Everyone else from last year is well below average. Again 1-18. Most games were not close. Ponds, Ahmed, And Lovett are huge additions. Leftovers are hopefully on the bench or much improved . Being positive is fine. I remember some good moments from last year. I also remember giving up 50 plus in the 1st half plenty.
We were last in conference last year. I think most of you thought we could have been better. I don't . I think if we played 50 conference games we may have not won another game. We beat DePaul . I enjoyed it. But I think they were much better then us.
I am excited for the new guys to come in and assert themselves.

As for them not being "good" I disagree. I think they are good and they were both put in unrealistic situations last year. Mussini wore down physically due to being over relied on and overused while Ellison caught a bad break literally missing end of out of conference schedule. I'm not claiming they will take over the Big East next season but they will help win some games and will help win more games down the road.

Didn't avoid your question Dave. I don't know enough about other teams guards to answer. I also have never seen any of our new players play.

Moose is the odd man out in the transfer game IMO. Marcus absolutely dominated, and I mean ran circles around him in the intrasquad scrimmage last Fall, it was abundantly obvious. Add Shamorie into the mix and eventual guards like Luther Muhammad and other studs in 2018 and he's flying back to a Italy contract in a NY minute. He needs to develop his body but he'll still be diminutive in stature. His game really doesn't translate to BE physicality, he can't defend American guards at all and when he's struggling to shoot he's a waste of a player on the floor.

Malik has true potential, and the early word out of Queens this summer is that he's vastly improved from March. He was really coming into his own in the last 8 weeks of the season and I like his chances of being a 4 year guy over the likes of Moose, Darien, Amar etc.

I know the nature of the beast is to expect a small amount of turnover every year, but how do we know that Rico won't be content playing in a more limited role on a winning team, not being asked to do to much, enjoying college basketball (and everything else college has to offer), while improving his game with some good teachers against very good competition.

Not arguing because we rarely consider non-BB aspects of life when discussing players and that's silly but what does playing CBB in Jamaica offer that playing professional BB in Italy does not, specifically when it comes to quality of life and especially trim. I think not a lot.

2017 is a small class with just transfers and a "problem kid" but I have a gut it will work out fine and will be a beastly class talent-wise.

I've said before that unless there is a massive improvement, I think Amar still transfers at the end of the year. He could finish college with a grad degree, and possibly play overseas in one of the less competitive leagues. I love his attitude, but that just makes sense to me.
