I tell you it's going to be a lot more exciting than last year.  We have much more of everything this year.  I think Ahmed can give us a little bit of what Jayvaughn Pinkston was for Nova.  We also have more height, and massive upgrade at both guard spots.  I think we will give people a real hard time, and despite our record, we gave a lot of teams a hard time in games last year.  This team is upgraded in every way.

What similarities do you see between Ahmed and Pinkston?

I don't think Ahmed is quite a banger like Pinkston, but he has good hands and can score with both hands inside.  Both are tweeter PF/SF's.  Looks like Ahmed put on a lot of size now as well, so his body is ready to get some scoring done inside.  Ahmed will be a mismatch for many his size because he has SF skills as well. 

It's nice that Rothstein is always so positive about our program. He makes everyone we have sound great.

Rothstein claims we have the talent but the results are down the line. Does that reflect on the staff?.

I think part of it means the coaching and XO ability of the staff is a non proven entity. Cant tell anything by last year.

If you look next year v. this year, next year's team--if healthy--mops the floor with this squad.

This staff doesn't need to prove anything.  The head coach is Chris Mullin.

– The sleeper in St. John’s recruiting class is German import Richard Freudenberg. The 6-8 forward has Gordon Hayward-like attributes and should have an immediate impact for the Red Storm this season. It’s going to take some time for Freudenberg to adjust to the college game, but he already competes, can make shots, and has the ability to extend defenses as a stretch power forward if Chris Mullin opts to go small. This kid has a chance to be an All-Big East caliber playing by his junior season if he continues to refine his game.

Ellison would really have to step up his physicality and rebounding to pull that off. I love small lineups. Hopefully Bash and the MSU transfer will bring that more of that out of him.

I love small lineups if theyre your best lineup. I'd start Sima
