Shamorie Ponds

I think he's the best since Barkley.

He's certainly been as impressive as anyone since Cook to date, and playing with a lesser supportive cast (certainly than EB).  Looks better than D-Lo as a freshman and I'm a huge D-Lo fan.

I think Barkley is the best frosh on this list given what he meant to an Elite 8 team. Cook right behind him. I think Ponds is definitely in that group.

Hill's first year was the Jarvis firing year followed by the mess in Pitt.  Hill was double teamed with minimal supporting cast.  Barkley was great but his supporting cast was superior.  Hill under looked because of the record due to punishment and his injuries.  Thing is he stayed after frosh year when we were suspended.  Put SJU first rather than transfer.

Lets not forget about our other fr. Guard, Lovett.

What I see in Ponds is a true combo guard. He can run the offense. Clearly he was well coached in high school. Felipe was an off guard. He wasn't capable of running the point. Barkley and Cook were true point guards. We're seeing a player who is immediately as versatile as the player we hope he'd become in 3 years.

I think Ponds is what everyone hoped Elijah Ingram was supposed to be

He may turn out to be the best guard since Mullin.

I just hopes he stays four years

Remember that time Ponds went 0-5 from in an exhibition game and people thought he couldn't shoot?

Ponds averaged 17.5 points per game against two Big Ten teams. His points per game average on the season is 17.3, so actually, he's worse against the shit teams.

His high school team won the state championship for the first time in forever. His offensive game had it all in high school inside, middle and outside shooting ability.  He is the real deal!

I was watching the game with two friends who know are not St. John's fans and they were impressed by Ponds obviously and ask what the chances were he leaves early for the NBA. I had never really thought of it until that time. My answer was basically that we his is no where close to being physically ready for that. At his size and weight I would be surprised if he is not a 4 year players, hoping at least. Love to watch him play and he is already scary good.

FWIW Donny Marshall was saying on the broadcast last night that if Ponds were two inches taller and 20 lbs heavier he might be a one and done player. Tells you what kind of talent people think he is.

I hate this logic. Fordham is a real team. The A-10 conference sent 3 teams to tourney last year and Fordham was smack in the middle. Are they a lower class program than St. John's? Yes but lets not act like they are so terrible and St. John's is so great.
