Shamorie Ponds

I couldn't be happier with Ponds. His vision and accurate passing ability are stellar. He's a far better athlete than the very limited Harrison was as well.

That said, let's see what he does in conference play. 

FWIW Donny Marshall was saying on the broadcast last night that if Ponds were two inches taller and 20 lbs heavier he might be a one and done player. Tells you what kind of talent people think he is.

He also said Lavin was a phenomenal coach. Take it for what it's worth.

Remember that time Ponds went 0-5 from in an exhibition game and people thought he couldn't shoot?

What year was that again? 

I vote Barkley. Ponds seems like a more complete player then Harrsion or Cook...

I'd venture to say, when all is said and done, Ponds could be best freshman ( anything) since Artest.  Time will tell.

I hate this logic. Fordham is a real team. The A-10 conference sent 3 teams to tourney last year and Fordham was smack in the middle. Are they a lower class program than St. John's? Yes but lets not act like they are so terrible and St. John's is so great.

I agree that in conference will be tougher (especially playing each team twice) but can't discredit games. Got to put the ball in the hoop, make right decisions, and still do things well.

It wasn't a matter of pure out athleticism where every time they took it straight to the rack. Good passing and excellent shooting are things that carry over.

That's why I said FWIW. Regardless my point is that people are really taking notice of how good Ponds is and can be.

Friend of mine who is an ex-HS hoops coach said the same thing about Ponds re your Artest comment saying he is our most talented player since Artest.

I think ponds is great. And I thought until yesterday that Lovett was better.

IMO looks like our best freshman since Harkless, who had games that year against top comp (recall in Cameron v Duke) and in conference (Prov game where he broke the record) in which he looked like one of the best 5 freshman in the country. Sampson was a pretty darn good frosh as well.

Let's just remember the games to date when the kid has some tough games - which he surely will - so we can avoid threads on how he is "overrated" or "not that good".

I was having similar thoughts about him last night that if he were bigger and more toned he could be a guy who leaves early. I think with his size he is a four year player but if Ponds was 6'4 and 190 he might be looking at getting drafted esrly

I went to Fordham and I think they have had a pitiful program since Digger left (1971)  Cmon Dave, they are awful.  Marshall is right, Ponds has awesome skills, plays like a senior and may be an NBA player if he keeps his head straight.  Very efficient, very smart, very talented.  Reminds me a bit of Sherman Douglas Except he has a better outside game.

Yeah he could have a great 4 year career here.
