How to fix this team?
« on: December 12, 2016, 09:19:08 AM »
1. Don't play Yakwe + Owens together for extended minutes
2. Play Bash more at the 4
3. Limit guys like Amar, Williams to short sprints on the floor. Be maniacs for 2 min spurts
4. Don't have Lovett, Ponds, Mussini on floor together. Not enough shots, hurts defensively.
5. Move Ellison to point when Mussini in and LoVett out. Helps Ponds + Mussini get shots.
6. Play scrappy zone. We have short guards and thin bigs. You can mask size and utilize speed and avoid fouls
7.  Use timeouts, adjust, sub situationally in clutch.
8. Over emphasize rebounding to bigs because this team can run.

Been saying it all year. We need to steal quick baskets, push it up and force it we have to, get to the free throw line early. On a made basket, get the ball out quickly while the other time is on its heals....the quick guards need to get to the hoop.

while the offense isn't the greatest, our defense is what needs to be revamped.

1. play zone
2. press more
3. make halftime adjustments

At this point try anything.  When not pressing(which should be 75% of the game), let's try a 1-3-1. Zone. Put Yakwe on the top

Gotta give Williams more minutes at this point. His display yesterday was that good after collecting dust on the bench for most of the year. Could have something there.

I think the team will be significantly better when Lovett returns. We are forgetting that he was the best player on the team.
In addition to that, just play harder. There are too many guys who don't get after it on defense. Stay with your man. Don't back off and give your man a wide open 10 footer. Put more effort in to the defense.

I would like to see the defense switch up.  Still play man to man but switch to different zones for extended minutes.  Press....Try and take our opponent out of their comfort zone.

Until proven otherwise...Owens should be our closer at the 5. Just as good defensively as Yakwe but much smoother on offense.

And agree with others...run, run run on made and missed baskets. If there isn't a good shot in the first 7 seconds...set it up and run the offense.

I like the idea of Yakwe sitting a top a 1-3-1 zone, Tariq as the anchor. Shamorie, Malik, and Marcus running wild in the middle of the zone.

Offensive turnovers have to be cut down. Moose, Bash, Malik need to tighten up their handling and cross court passing.

Gang rebounding and better shot selection should be focused on between finals this week. Ball movement has been crisp, team for the most part remaining unselfish post Bahamas.

Would definitely like to see a concerted effort towards a pestering, relentless full court press.

Get the reps in, shots up on these six days off. Re-calibrate, practice hard and realize how big of a opportunity the next two matchups are to salvage this OOC season.

1. Lovett needs to come back.
2. Secondary players have to play with a purpose and have restrictions put on them. Ex. Amar is not a gunnner, he needs to rebound and play defense. Ellison is not a star- he is a back up guard. He should not always have the green light. If these guys don't play their roles they don't play!

3. Scout your opponents and come out with some kind of defensive game plan. We don't have the players to just play man. Some kind of zone has to be played. We have little depth

4. Figure out a way mussini can help. Against the bottom teams he is great. Against big time athletes not so much.

We have a week to get ready to play our first garden game vs a decent team.  Plenty of time to come up with a game plan.

Agreed.  We don't want another situation where a highly rated recruiting class goes to the tournament once in four years with the cupboard left as bare as can be imaginable thereafter.

The main thing they need is some players that have post moves and just once - I would like to see old school move - like the turn around jumper.

Ellison takes it strong to the rim but he really has to work on how to finish - he has the ability and if he can learn to do that he can double his scoring.
Ahmed just has to be under more control when he drives - Yawkee - has to learn a five to ten feet jump shot.
