Mullin's first game I sat as close as I could behind the bench. Like everyone I wanted him to do well. I sent pictures of him like a little kid to my family and friends. An hour later at half time we were getting killed by a division 2 team. Plenty of excuses have been made but that shouldn't happen. Our team last year had little talent but they certainly should have beaten or aleast been competitive vs st. Thomas. Since then we have lost to:  incarnate word, nyit, LIU, deleware state, old dominion. Last year we won 1 conference game. This year, I can't believe we win 2.

Mullin has 19 games left . He should show something. What has he done to deserve to be our coach? What about recruiting going foward? No one wants to lose. What about our current players? Do you think they are happy? Our guys were wanted by other schools and still are.

This season is going to get much worse. Besides DePaul, penn  state was the worst team on our schedule.
We have plenty of talent coming back. A good coach we can be decent/good by next season. Every single one of us has to produce Or we will lose our own jobs, why is mullin different. My job is much easier but I am also not making 2 million dolllars.

I think this March will be it if the team cannot win 5 games.

I just received an email from Anton Goff.
"Thank you for your passion regarding St. John's Basketball".  We all want what is best for the program."

Canned response.

If we fire Mullin after two seasons--our sixth straight firing--we deserve what will come after that. The fact that some of you think this way shows exactly why St. John's is the worst coaching job in the country.  Coaching at St. John's and dating a Kardashian both guarantee your soul will be crushed by a group of unrelenting maniacs.

Firing Mullin after only two years, when SJU knew he was inexperienced and he was walking into a complete overhaul, after doing a huge introduction ceremony, is a great way to do things wrong.
1. The school will burn bridges to their best player in SJU history, further alienating alumni and fans (haha I get it what fans...).
2. The administration will show that they will not have their coaches back when things get difficlult. What coach would want to come to that.
3. A brand new coaching and recruiting philosophy will have to be implemented again.
4.  How much money will the school have after  spending money on fire coaches to hire a new coach?

The administration took a chance and made their bed with Mullin, and they have to give him enough time and resources for him to be a successful coach.

Two years, one disgruntled coach leaving, not hiring an experienced X&Os coach,, team playing horribly, Rumblings and grumblings from the media and fans, is enough time for the AD to get involved in personnel decisions.

If this season is a complete debacle some kind of change will be needed, but It should not be firing Mullins unless he wants out.

Just to play devil's advocate: For #1, if Mullin doesn't have a .500 season after 6 years do we still alienating alumni and fans by firing Mullin then?

If this season is a complete debacle and some change is needed, but Mullin isn't willing to shake up the coaching staff outside of Matt, what change could come?

You're naive to think the next coach will have talent remaining if their coach is fired without a legitimate chance.  Say goodbye to Ponds, Brown, Lovett, RF, and company. Simon and Clark are likely goners to since they will be able to play anywhere without sitting out.

Very few kids want to play for a coach that didn't recruit them.

If Mullin/Richmond can't get this program to be relevant...then no one can.  Period.

It's time for a reality check.  First, realize we're not New York's team...nor NYC's team anymore.  We may never be.

Second, make ticket prices comparable to the Fordham's and Hofstra's of the area.  Charging Duke prices for a team that can't beat low majors is ludicrous and it pisses fans off.  No one wants to feel they got screwed after watching our mediocre team get pegged by what used to be cream puffs.

Third, leave the Big East where we haven't been consistently competitive since Looie left.  It's embarrassing already to have us pose as a big time school when we're not.

Fourth, play ALL the locals every year to rekindle rivalries.  These games would be more fun to watch than our annual beat-down by Creighton, Butler and/or Xavier.  It's time to put the egos in check.

Fifth, remember CCNY, LIU and NYU were national programs that won national championships...or were number one at one time.  Their ships sailed.  So has ours.  Our program can suck a cannonball through a garden hose.  It's time for a change.

Obviously six years is more than enough time to give Mullin a good faith shot at success. Two seasons after being left with only Amar and Jones clearly is not.

Change is inevitable for next year. They will add at least one grad transfer big man. They have Zach Brown coming in and Simon and Clark. Also, RF and Ahmed will be more able to contribute.

Somewhat better players, cool. Will still underachieve if we don't have one or maybe two real X's and O's guys on the bench helping Mullin through gameplans and games. If St. Jean and Richmond are still the two assistants alongside Mullin and Matt next year it won't matter what players we have. Not really fair to St. jean or Richmond but they don't help Mullin overcome his coaching deficiencies

Maybe you should take a look and see how unprepared we are. This staff is not only inexerienced, they are completely inept.

How exactly are you determining the team is unprepared? Are you at their practices? Are you at their film sessions? When we came out last year and spanked a final four Syracuse team did we look unprepared? Where you saying the staff is inept? It looked like Mullin out coached a hall of fame coach. Coaching isn't rocket science. At the end of the day the players need to execute the plan and put the ball through the net. When they do, the staff is genius, when they don't, their inept. Teams win with talent. A top ten recruit went to Kansas last year over us and couldn't get off the bench. Why? because they had better players on the team than him. He would have been the best player on our roster. It's about talent, and this team lacks it, even against so called "lesser programs".

Take a look at what happens when outside hires have been made the last 10 years. Let's also be realistic. If SJU can fire six straight coaches and embarrass the face of their basketball program after not even letting his first full recruiting class see their sophomore season, what would they do to an outsider?!  Nobody worthwhile would ever even consider  us again.
