Game 19: Villanova at MSG

This may be the most frustrating team I've ever watched. I seem to be so angry watching games, watching how they "move" - how they try to attack. It's such a level of incompetence. I'm so sick and tired of excuses and the same ol' responses from fans or media when talking about this team. Where is the fire? Where is the cohesive game planning? Why can't we develop a way to attack a team when they are clearly off their game? The simple answer is we are void of the proper talent and depth  to keep up with the teams we're losing to. But it's more than that - our players are not being put in the position to get the optimal results from their "talents." The way other teams move the ball, move on the floor, against us is something that seems like a foreign language when compared to our "style" of basketball. It's depressing. I'm tired of this.

Grow up. Our first and second year players had the defending national champs and #3 team in the country within 8 with three minutes left with AA, Williams, and Mussini as our three key subs.

Grow up? That's your response? This has much more to do with the trends this team displays week in and week out in the way they lose more so than this specific game. Trends develop because bad habits, and wrong decisions are not corrected. No one expected to win this team, it's about more than the scope of the last 40 mins of basketball.

Honestly, Marillac....  You don't believe Villanova was in cruise control by that point?  Not to mention, there wasn't any doubt in my mind, and I bet most fans minds, we wasn't a threat to win today's game even with the score within 8 with three minutes left.  I typically follow the ebbs and flows of games.  Now, there was probably a chance we could've went on a late half run to steal this one.  But, the flow of game didn't dictate such, IMO. 

Actually, we played Villanova in a similar fashion last season, and that was with a lesser bunch than we have now.  Villanova didn't play well today, and they was primed to be plucked. 

IMO, there are also things that leads me to believe it's more than just a talent issue. 

The last four losses were not a surprise. Hopefully they come to play Monday in game they should win & give them a little bounce in their step. Otherwise they could go on big slide and discourage everyone.

Agree....  Those losses wasn't a surprised (although, I was surprised by how we was beaten down by G'town).  Frankly, we should win on Monday at home versus DePaul. 

The losses are inevitable, as I mentioned once before.  You can even get spanked by playing sound ball, but the other team plays sound and being much better than you.  It's now we're losing.  It's how we're losing, and many of the same habits and patterns continue to rear its head.

For the on court performance, I'll subtract a point of deficit as Mullin gets called for the technical, and Villanova made a FT

Of course they were in cruise control. If we closed it to 3-4, they would have responded every time. They are the defending national champs and there was nothing we could have done today to win. For the above poster to write this was the most frustrating team he's ever watched is crazy. Our best four players are playing their first year here.  They beat the spread by .5. This was likely the most predictable game of our entire season.

3-2 over the next five should make everyone happy. It won't, but that would be a great
sign for the future. I'd be a lot more pessimistic if Ponds and Lovett weren't  so nasty,
we didn't have two legit transfers redshirting, and Owens didn't play so damn hard all the time.

If people aren't happy going 3-2 over the next 5 then they will never be happy. 1-4 is a lot more likely than 3-2

He'd love to win, but he has to learn how to coach first. Hey, Jay Wright, Coach K and Bobby Knight learned, so it's possible. Plus, he's a Dream Team member so that still means some shit here.

Was at the game under the Nova basket. Came away impressed with Dante Ginzo. Would not surprise me if he's the best player on that team come March

You think Manhattan beats Villanova if Jay coaches Manhattan and Masiello coaches Nova?  The answer is no.  And that proves exactly nothing.  Villanova is not trading Wright for Masiello but Manhattan would trade Masiello for Wright in 2 seconds.

He is a good young player of the Nova mold, but Josh Hart is their best player today, tomorrow, and for the rest of the season.  And I think Jenkins and Brunson are probably next.

Expect Bash to be better with a year under his belt.  We've seen that happen repeatedly with JUCOs here.

Not impressed with Jenkins, he has 1 move..and we fell for it every time. Pump fake. Brunson and Ginzo will be the best backcourt in the Big East the next few years, maybe the nation
