good win in front of some key recruits.

Always great to beat Georgetown, but a weird game. Crazy that Amar came in for defensive reasons . Thought the game was over when Owens got hurt. Was watching without sound, why was Lovett sitting with like 3 minutes left?

Hopefully everyone remembers this game when we try to run Muss out of town.  He carried us in the first half and was vital in us winning this game.  When we share the ball and play smart, he can be a very effective player.

Nice w. Fun is going to have to start spelling Mussinis name correctly. Thankfully we have Simon and Clark coming next year  Ellisons minutes will dwindle.

Amar was in for D because no, except Mussini, was playing any.  Amar gave a couple of hard fouls, had a key steal and held his position well inside.....a good effort.....but Mussini was defensive player of the game, very active and some key plays...if SJU finishes  at 8-10 is finishing 6th possible...will have to check math and schedules

Mussini was big time today. He keyed the 17-0 run and then Amar and Ellison playing together keyed Georgetown's 17-0 run.

Is Mussini our best defender outside of Owens? Sure seems like it some games.

It's all about the effort on d. The other guards could care less

Lovett gives a shit on D.
He's small. And got posted up a few times today.
But the effort is there from him.

I don't understand your issue with him and Lovett.  They are the best young guard we've had here in 15+ years.  We ask them to do everything and rarely have a shot at winning if both aren't really good on offense.  We have 7 wins in the Big East - a number most didn't think we'd reach -- primarily because of them.  They easily outplayed your boy Howard - who you love -- in both games, and embarassed him the first time to the point where he couldn't bring the ball up.  And they are two of the best freshman guards in the country that every team would want right now.

Yes, they need to get much better on defense.  I don't think their lack of defensive prowess has anything to do with effort.  It has to do with the fact that most first year players, especially ones that were great offensively in HS, aren't good defensive players off the bat.  Perhaps it also has to do with focus; when you are asked to do everything else for a team, you might lose some focus on the defensive side.

If Mussini were the lead guard on this years team, we win 1 Big East game like last year.  We have a great shot at 8 or more because of these two.

Ponds worst defensive player on the team. No effort
Maybe it's just not his thang.

Playing in March won't be his thang either

You really, really think these kids don't care?  Come on now.

Mussini was great today.  Nice that he contributed to a W, because he hasn't done that much this year due to his limitations.  Today he played the role we need him to play; knocking down open shots created by others and being scrappy on defense, because otherwise he is a major liability.  And I'm a fan of the kid.

It also helps that he knocked down some wide open shots created for him by others - which is where he can actually add value.  I love his effort on defense but most of the time it is a major liability.  When he knocks down shots he is a useful rotation piece.  And when he isn't he shouldn't play absent foul trouble.

Hopefully everyone remembers this game when we try to run Muss out of town.  He carried us in the first half and was vital in us winning this game.  When we share the ball and play smart, he can be a very effective player.

They did - and probably the first time this year we could say that.

Let's not forget Ponds had 24 on 10-15 and made some big plays.  And Ahmed, everyone's favorite whipping boy, had 16.  That helps too.

Crazy to say it, but Muss and Amar got us the w

You have a point.

Just back from game and any time we beat Hoyas, I feel good as I sat through too many losses to them over the years.  I was glad to see some folks actually call for Rico,  He is not that bad on offense and defensively he looked better today (or was it the Hoyas).  Amar did things that will not appear in the box score like boxing out.  I also like that he gave some fouls like the old days where he made sure the shooter didn't have an easy lay in but had to make 2 from the line.

Hope Owens not too hurt as he went down hard on ankle and then disappeared into locker room.  He'll be  needed in the remaining 2 games.

Something about home cooking for this team. after 2 blow outs on the road.

Everyone's favorite whipping boy is Ellison--for good reason.

You would never know this team was 13-16 by how hard the Garden was rocking today. Great win!

Their offense is great. The lack of effort on d is noticeable. This is the Big East, gotta play d

On this, I will say that the fans generally have been terrific this year.  Great Carnesecca crowds for the Big East games.  Have thought the Garden crowds by and large have been good.

Compare that with others.  Seton Hall looks like it is on its way to the tourney.  They have had literally less than 4000 people in the Roc for crucial games against Xavier and Creighton.  Coming off a BE tourney win and ncaa appearance.

You would never know this team was 13-16 by how hard the Garden was rocking today. Great win!

Yea I don't think its lack of effort.  I think its lack of focus.  I think it's coming up in the AAU scene where kids who are great offensively don't have to play defense and being in major college hoops for the first time, where you do.  I think it's simply not being good defenders yet.  Some kids are off the bat, and some kids aren't.  And I think that when so much of asked of you on one end of the floor, it is harder to learn at a young age how to bring it both ways.

Some of your favorite players at Iona have been horrific defenders, against inferior athletes and players.  You think they didn't give a s***?
