Good to get a win in a game where Lovett was mostly quiet. Mussini proving he does have some worth when he's hitting shots like he did today.

I'm not expecting us to be all the competitive @ Creighton because of how terrible we've been on the road. The game next Saturday vs Providence should be interesting as that is going to be a really really big game for Providence.

Waiting for Dave's "Ellison was brutal today but he'll be a good player eventually" post. Seems to be an every game occurrence now.

Yea got nothing for you. Has the tools but he's been playing brutal.

- Had one or two or five of those Bronx Pale ales for the first time that Mj always touts.
Quite refreshing!

- Ellison has misplaced his stroke and his confidence and was clearly playing better earlier in the year.  But he's lean, long, our best defensive guard and all our other guards are shetland ponies. He was a vital piece against a Georgetown team that's typically bigger than us 1 thru 5.

Coach is smarter than youse guys and is using him appropriately.   He needs to play the 30+ he gets.  Frustrating as it may be at times.

- Da Ali B had a great 4 pt. 0 rebound 20 minute outing. Hit a nice ever rare for him off the dribble J and had that huge steal breakaway dunk. Be honest - anybody else anticipated a travel on that play?  Some of the best D without fouling he's ever shown.  His inside play, plus Darien's return,  helped neutralize the Hoya's inside advantage without To.  Was lucky he didn't get called for an intentional foul twice.

- Bash's belief system is unique.  In his mind he's a cross between George Gervin and Earl Monroe.

- The not a Be player who shouldn't be on the court that needs to transfer and can't guard a lamppost Italian sparked the win.  Oh yeah...he's a sophmore.

- Sham is in range of the third all-time leading scorer 3'lo's St. John's freshmen scoring record.  An even bigger accomplishment is that he could pass the great Avery "single game 3pt record holder" Patterson's 72 threes and move into 2nd place on the all-time list.

- Have you guys been watching the press conferences?  It has been made crystal clear, many times, by multiple players, that it is we the fans who are directly responsible for all of these home wins.

So the onus is upon us.  You want to have a winning basketball team?  Get your a$$ to the games!!!

I stopped reading when I saw Ellison was our best defensive guard. The next screen he goes over will be his first--pure laziness.  He couldn't cover Baldi or any of his old St. Francis Prep teammates off the bounce. He may be the worst defensive "guard" I've ever seen at St. John's, and I put guard in quotes because he can't defend the position two years into his career.

Who's better?
Everyone. He has no ability to stop anyone's dribble. Don't be fooled by him getting a deflection or steal here and there. He's a lousy defender and he has absolutely no desire to rebound.

So let's ignore deflections and steals? Also grabbed a huge rebound at end of game to seal it. All players have their shortcomings but some guys are too quick to dismiss guys.

I was watching the game sitting at a bar and started yelling don't travel when Amir got that steal. I think some people were confused

What's your deal the last month? You've been (quite obviously) on the losing end of every argument. You need to work on your reading comprehension and stop misattributing words and imputing stances on people. I didn't say to "ignore" steals and deflections just like I didn't say you need a "traditional  big man" to win. Maybe the political talk on Facebook is getting to you? Poor and/or lazy defenders can get plenty of deflections and steals. That should never be looked at in a vacuum. The hardest things to do on defense are to stay low and fight over screens. Ellison does neither.  He has 20 offensive rebounds playing 25 mpg in 29 games at 6'6. That is appalling. He averages 3 boards overall (and shrinking) and that is downright embarrassing for a 6'6 kid.

Malik Ellison has failed to get a single offensive rebound 10 times in the last 12 games. That is the the greatest hustle stat out there. Case closed.

Ok but that is a hustle/rebounding stat.... that has nothing to do with his defense. He stays in front of who he is guarding, forces steals and deflections, and on most nights he is on their number one player. Like Dave said he has the tools to be good but he isn't putting it all together right now.

Always fun to beat Georgetown . But they are bad. Amar played well for Amar . Mussini really competed and had a good game. But he is still the same guy. He isn't getting taller or faster. He absolutely tries hard on defense. Sadly he is playing better defense then our quicker guards.
Ellison has had a rough few games . He wouldn't play so much if we had a sub for him. Mussini is not taking the big east by storm.

He doesn't have the tools, he will not get any better, and he does not guard the best player on the other team  very often. When he does he gets abused.

Mussini has come in to spark a run.  Maybe, he woke up the team.

Again, Georgetown is begging to be blown out.  If we go up by 15, then I believe this game will be over.
Agree. He looks skilled. But is very passive.

Mussini was big time today. He keyed the 17-0 run and then Amar and Ellison playing together keyed Georgetown's 17-0 run.

Is Mussini our best defender outside of Owens? Sure seems like it some games.

It's all about the effort on d. The other guards could care less
Mullin does a pretty good job of yanking guys for egregious decisions (e.g Ahmed). Probably needs to do the same with the guards when they refuse to play defense or nonchalant it back in transition

Frustrating because he does have physical advantages and good skills. Problem is he thinks he has great skills and feels compelled to "be the man" instead of playing within the flow of the game, When he does the latter he is very valuable.

The game against Marquette was particularly bad. He looked out of it.

Agreed. So we beat the team that we were scheduled to play on our schedule, so what? We should have beaten Villanova instead. Federico Mussini is not tall. Therefore we will not win the national championship so we are not good. Amar Alibeogowtch is our seventh player off the bench. On a good team he would be ninth player off the bench, that's two players. Malik Ellison is tall but did not play as well as Villanova. Last month I said we would not win another game all season and instead  we have won six since then. Does that mean I don't know what I'm talking about? No, it doesn't even bother me because Federico Mussni has not grown. If he had he'd be taller and anyway if we had better players then he wouldn't play and then we could beat Villanova who have better players who are taller than Amar Alibewitch. No one is taking the Big East by storm except when it snows and when it rains it pours and Malik Ellison is a poor defender who is taller than Federico Mussini who would not play of taller better players played.

Needs a check-up from the neck up (seems to lack concentration-ie. like keeping his feet on the court not the end line, not letting passes wiz by his head, fouling three point shooters, making soft lazy passes that would be intercepted by a 90 year old man, etc. etc. etc.).

Ellison was 4 for 4 from the FT line in crunch time though. SEALED THE GAME. Now THAT was unexpected.

Ali B only took 4 steps on that breakaway. Refs didn't have the stones to call it in front of such a vociferous crowd.

I noticed ML on the bench in crunch time also. What gives? Despite Freddys great game Marcus has to finish every game that's in doubt.

Always great to beat Georgetown, but a weird game. Crazy that Amar came in for defensive reasons . Thought the game was over when Owens got hurt. Was watching without sound, why was Lovett sitting with like 3 minutes left?

Mrs. Ellison, I do not mean to insult your son, but this is completely false.
