2018
« on: May 21, 2017, 08:17:34 PM »
So we have our 10 guys for this year. 11th is sitting out and 12 and 13 are rolling over to 2018 class.

One of those is for Diakitie or so we still think since his injury is a big one

We lose Amar and Bashir and let's just say for shits and giggles we lose at least one other player ;). That's 5 ships for 18 and only 1 technically spoken for.

What's your dream but also realistic class.

I think that regardless of fact that we have a few ships to fill, we have good prospects there.  I'd love to see Moses, Luther and Little.  Anything else is gravy, but we probably need another pg and another big of some type.

I'm happy we closed 2017 out with a top notch four star kid and can concentrate efforts on 2018.  Wouldn't mind adding another recruiter/AHC.

Luther Muhammad and then go hard after both Moses Brown and Nassir Little.  I think as usual different recruits and transfers will emerge throughout the summer and school year that we are not talking about.

Big year both on and off the court.

Really want Luther.  Given how much effort the staff has put in his recruitment, I'll be upset if we don't land him, even though the competition is fierce.

I include Dixon as part of the 2018 class, given that he is a sit and play transfer.  With him in the fold for 2018, plus Simon, almost certainly Ponds (I'd think) and Mussini as a senior, my bet is that we only go hard for one 2018 freshman guard, and that is Luther.  That's five spots, plus Clark, Yawke, Owens and Sid.

After that, I see a sit and play transfer (guard) and either some combination of two bigs from the 18 class/immediately eligible transfer/JUCO route or one of those plus and sit and play transfer.

Think we will go:
1. Luther
2. Little
3. Sit Transfer
4. Grad Transfer

Either one of Luther or Little and I look as class as success. Both studs. Not as high on Brown but understand local importance and the boost in optics that his signing would give us. I'm sure we are in touch with other, I liked Anthony Nelson and Greg Williams but not sure how much we are pursuing them at this point.

Let the team actually step up and play well next year and kids will take notice...

We can speculate all we like but unless the play on the court gets better we will be going through our same old BS with recruits..

Agree that this is a year we need to take a big step forward.  We have the talent and athleticism at all spots to be a tourney team.  We can't have a horrible start with bad losses.   I don't think we should with our depth.  As far as recruiting goes, it also can't hurt that Mullin is out there handing out Western Conference trophies.  It puts his mug firmly in the NBA landscape and kids do see that stuff.

85-90% of the kids commit in the fall period before a game is ever played.  That's the problem when you want the on court product to bring recruits.

Agree that better play will correlate with improved recruiting, but I wouldn't call the kids we have landed the past two years "going through the same old BS".  Also, we've seen first hand how a team can be terrible for a number of years and still land recruits in a given cycle - look no further than Seton Hall, who you know well.

It's not going to help with 18' kids, but certainly with 19' and on.

They look at on court production from prior years and if the school has a recent history of winning and going to the dance on a consistent basis. Regardless if its  fall or spring, the on the court production is paramount.

Actually, Seton Hall still is living off their 2014 class (we all know that class was basically "handed" to 'em).  They've plugged some decent pieces to go along with that particular class, but Seton Hall is in a situation where they're gonna need solid '18 and '19 classes or they could find themselves at the bottom of the conference.

Moose is on point....  Most of the top 100 will be signed during the first signing period.  So, we're not gonna be in the best position for the '18 class to watch what we do in '18-'19.  Of course, they'll be a few '18 recruits left, but most of 'em are awaiting to see who goes pro amongst the blue-bloods.

As, MCN stated, it'll work with the '19 kids, but doubtful for the majority of the '18 kids.

I've said before this upcoming season is gonna be imperative on several fronts.

Looks like he had more offers to play football (4 star DE) but he wants to play basketball.

I figured I'd also place the 2018 JUCO Player Rankings here, as well....

By the way, the #2 rated JUCO, Jordan Brangers decommitted from Colorado State yesterday.  Probably, due to the Larry Eustachy situation.

Here are his numbers this season: http://njcaa.org/sports/mbkb/2016-17/div1/players/jordanbrangerseh81

Sign me up. Looks like a relatively low and deliberate gather but the dude gets buckets. There will be ball handling minutes available.

I wonder if they will ever fix this board or if we are in store for years and years of Host Gator messages and no new thread
