New targets?
« on: May 27, 2017, 09:14:31 AM »
There are still about 100 immediately eligible transfers available for 17/18.  I hope we fill out our roster w a big or two who can clog the middle and catch the bill when/if our bigs get in foul trouble.   Tariq is working his butt off every day, but stuff happens.

Any ideas?

Not sure how accurate:

6'10 4🌟PF Sedee Keita is transferring from South Carolina and is officially on #SJUBB's radar

Recruiting should be 365 days a year. Should always be on the look out for players. With open schollies saying we are finished is pure folly. Even Kansas, Duke, Kentucky never finished with recruiting. Are we so good we couldn't use a good player?

Sedee Keita is exact type of sit out transfer we should be after.  Several years eligibility, and we have ships to burn.  He's a talented PF too.  It would be weird though, to have a Diakite and Keita on our roster at the same time...

What could the reason possibly be not to fill the roster at least with grad transfers?  Saving money to pay Slice? Let's get another big or two?

You make it sound so simple. Kids dont want to come here.
Grad Transfers are transferring for a reason, they want to get something out of their last year of collegiate basketball. Maybe more playing time, maybe a tournament run, maybe a fresh start.

If we had 25-30 minutes of playing time for a "Grad Transfer Big" I'm sure someone would've chosen us by now.
But what would that have done to Tariq Owens or Marvin Clark or even Yakwe. Those guys wouldn't be happy.

What we needed was a freshman big that could learn and contribute off the bench to help us down the road. Unfortunately we struck out likely because of the trans kid.  Our biggest mistake/gaffe this offseason was not locking down French.

If he comes that would be great.  Sit one play 3?

Is it possible the staff just forgot to recruit a center?

I think you're coming up with excuses. Maybe we're not going to get a big man who expects to take 8-10 shots a game, and wants the offense to go through him. That doesn't mean we can't add a big man who can rebound and defend.

Are we supposed to accept that the big from LIU didn't want to come here? Is Brooklyn so much nicer than Queens?

Sounds good. However, can he box out and play some defense? That's what we need more then anything right now.

It is what we need more than anything but this kid won't be eligible to play until the 18-19 season. The staff might be finished recruiting for the 17-18 class. Ignoring a glaring weakness was what got Brian Mahoney fired. This staff appears to be just as lost.

Would think LSU is the likely landing spot here
