it seems to be the collective wisdom on here that our defense needs improving, but that our offense was ok.  Actually they were both pretty bad.  our tempo, which was 11th in the country just made it appear that our defense was worse than it is and offense was better than it is.  Offense was 90th and defense was 130th according to kenpom stats.  Offense was a bit better than D, but unless one somehow becomes elite (top 15 or so), both will need to improve into the 50s or so for this team to make the tournament.
I want to make the tournament also. And I will still watch every game. We have some talent. Their will be some games. But this team does not play wining basketball.

They haven't played any games yet, how would you know if they play winning basketball or not?
Contrast to Kentucky's Midnight Madness.  They meant business.  We were content to entertain.

Right that's why Kentucky gets 5 star recruits and will win more games than SJU this year, because for 1 hour on the 1st practice they were 10% more serious than SJU.
It's the difference between a winning mentality and a not give a sht mentality.  Five star players don't always win championships.

That's a crock.  The difference is UK can pay a top coach 7-10 million a year, have a ridiculous fan base with ridiculous boosters to support a big program.

Butler did not have a midnight madness at all, so that must put them behind BOTH SJU and UK except Butler has done just fine.  Chris Holtmann left Butler probably because Butler doesn't have a midnight madness right???

Or because Ohio St is a top 15 program with gobs of money and incredible facilities...

The idea that Midnight Madness is what is separating SJU from UK is ridiculous.
We're not good enough to "fool around".  It brings about the usual loser mentality that's killed this team going back years.  Kentucky means business.  Their players' goals is to make the NBA.  Our guys will be picking up women in burkas post college careers.  It's all about hard work.

Fooling around at MM madness is one thing. But, in practice they have to work hard and get down to business.

Kentucky with 27 players on NBA rosters for opening night - staggering number
