I hope we implement some zone during the season.  Otherwise, I have visions of a player or two, per our frontcourt, in frequent foul trouble.

Don't even need to go to zone to avoid foul trouble. Can still play man but don't so aggressive on and off the ball. That leads to guys getting beat off the dribbe more frequently which leads to the guys that help (usually the bigs) picking up fouls

Totally agree, but I don't trust our group to avoid foul trouble in man defense.  So, implementing some zone and playing it from time to time during games may help.

It's extremely early, so I'll see how it looks after several games.

Is it me or is Ahmed pulling his stroke on his shot?  He’s shooting differently than last year.  He’s not following through.

Marvin Clark citing Draymond Green in terms of his impact on St. John's: "That's someone I emulate, someone I look up to. That's the role I feel I need to play for this team." #SJUBB

Your final: St. John's 84, AIC 52.  Box score;

Just got home, immediate thoughts on the newcomers:

-We have a good one in Justin Simon, the hype is real, we're going to love his game. Obvious starter. Westbrook lite.

-Marv was the cog of the team tn. An easy double-double, shooting will get better with time. Born leader.

-You can tell that Trimble can really shoot it. Needs to get a better feel of the college game, perhaps get into better game shape.

Returnees:

-Bash is in terrific shape. Shamorie & Marcus haven't lost a step, business as usual.  Amar getting extended minutes bc of Kassoum's absence, will be seeing significant time this year. Tariq's shooting touch has improved.

Biggest concerns:

Lack of depth. The roster couldn't field any garbage time minutes off the end of the bench, we will be seeing a lot of these guys from 1-10. Height is concerning too, as Mullin is saying gang rebounding and ball movement needs to be emphasized to make up for the lack of height.

Reason for hope:

Versatility, athleticism and growing chemistry. The ball movement tonight was promising.

Great to be back in Queens!

Is it possible that the staff could add an eligible player for the second semester? I like both Clarke and Simon, but we are clearly going to struggle against teams with any size. I didn't see one player on our team could post up. This group is like a promising mid major from the Missouri Valley Conference.

Tariq still getting into early foul trouble. Wish Yakwe could have played but good to hear he will be available for the opener.

Yakwe will actually play in our exhibition on Sunday versus Rutgers.

That's been my fear all along. Hopefully it's not their achilles heel.

Lineup of LP, Simon, Clark and anybody looks very promising.  Small but promising.

Early thoughts...

Our perimeter defense was noticeably much more active and just better. Lovett and Ponds particularly were moving their feet well and very good on-ball with active hands. Simon's arms are ridiculously long and he has a very wide base defensively with his arms extended which slows him down on the ball. His potential off the ball and down low is insane though. Strong kid...good use of leverage.

We got a lot of easy looks and I was happy to see Clark in the mix in a lot of that.

We are very clumsy in the front court....there is just not a lot of body control, even out of
our combo forwards. Good decision making will help mitigate that.

Someone has to step up and make outside shots besides Ponds and Lovett.

Simon crashing glass is going to be a real problem for the opposition.

I love the quote about Clark wanting to be like Draymond Green. Not a lot of kids his size embrace that kind of role.
