Another ugly game. Nothing else to say except we survived again without Lovett.  10-2 is 10-2. We've beaten everyone worse than us and lost to the two teams that were equal or better.

It's a good thing the staff is taking your advice never to play Simon at the end of games, he sucks...

I said he shouldn't touch the ball at the end.  He missed two FTs tonight at the end and had a bery ill advised take that that his athleticism bailed him out of. He won't get away with that against against better player that don't have four fouls. He freezes up in tight spots. And Owens with the backdoor attempt to Ponds? Let's give the ball to Ponds at the end every time and leave the gambling for the blackjack tables.

Interesting that Amar did not see the floor at all in this one, even with being shorthanded and Clark only playing 4 mins in the first half due to 2 quick fouls

And that's a bad thing how? Amar should never see the floor except for garbage time.

We also look a lot better offensively against the zone. I'm impressed by the improvement of our coaches. Exciting times.

I think DePaul, and to a lesser extent, Georgetown, are the only four games that losing would be considered "bad losses." 10-8 should get us in.

Right...or people could just ignore your advice as complete nonsense being spouted by someone whose knowledge base hovers between the average fan and the local drunk at the end of the bar...

Never said it was bad, I actually think it's great the staff finally realized that he can't play in games like this no matter what. Just interesting is all because he has been getting minutes here and there since Marcus has been out

STill bearing solid teams like this, and without our starting PG... a good sign.  We need a healthy Lovett hopefully soon...
Can't cry about missing Lovett when the announcers were saying St Joe's has been decimated by injuries. I don't know anything about St. Joe's so I don't know who they were missing or how good they are but we are not the only team that has to play short handed.

Hawk fan here good game. I hope Lovett gets healthy as you enter conference play.  We lost our point guard in the opener. As a sophomore Lamarr Kimble averaged 15.5 ppg. and a team high of 3.3 assists a night.

Shavar Newkirk is back after ACL surgery in mid-February but is not nearly as effective as he was before going down. Averaged 20.6 ppg. while shooting 46.6% overall and 39.6% for threes.

This year 16 ppg. shooting 35.3% overall and 31% for threes.  He's a warrior but not on track for a lock for First Team A10 Honors like last year.

Finally a sophomore Charlie Brown who required wrist surgery after a preseason practice injury has not returned.  As a freshmen he set the school record for threes and had 10 NBA scouts in watching him in practice.

He needs to get a little stronger but he can really play and has an unbelievable work ethic.

It was obviously a close game as it was but I would have loved to have seen both squads with their full rosters and a healthy Shavar.

Good luck the rest of the way.  I have to admit I was a little surprised when Chris switched coasts and signed up for life in high school gyms and wooing teenagers.  That' a far cry from the NBA and the Dream Team but what a great hire for your program.

I'm from the era when it was Lou Carnesecca coming into The Palestra to take on Jack McKinney's Hawks (an eventual NBA Coach of the Year) and when we'd tell the coeds on campus "we have a game in Jamaica this weekend!"

I've missed the last two games so a couple things based on the box score:

Simon an assist away from a triple double is good to see. He has had some trouble in the half court but you gotta like the way he looks to get everyone involved.

Trimble has had a few poor shooting games after starting the season well. I appreciate his quick trigger and think the shots will start to fall, but does he seem to be pressing?

I think Trimble thinks he is Max Hooper all he does is shoot 3s.

Once again a lot of complaining in what is just another win.  We don't have Lovett and they were missing guys as well, but we are an extremely thin team as well, even with Lovett heathy.  The fact is that we are still rolling and these are not non-competitive teams.  In addition, I think we are far from playing our best ball.  This is a good win because every win is a good win.   They all add up and record does matter at the end.  Our RPi and sos are very good.  In addition, it never hurt Cuse when Boeheim made those cupcake schedules all those years.  What matters is winning those games, which we have done.

Time to get Lovett healthy and play our best this Big East season.  We passed first part of test.  On to league play!

Amar gets my vote for POG. No turnovers and no missed 3s.

It didn't hurt Boeheim because after beating the cupcakes he had a number of huge wins. We will play Nova and Xavier 4X and maybe another game in BET in addition to duke. That's maybe 5 or 6 games against real good comp can we freaking win one of them cause we haven't beat Nova since the Roosevelt administration. Not Franklin either, freaking Teddy!

Or, Dr. Funkenstein for St. Joe's.

I know some here are upset we didn't win some of these games more convincingly, but truth be told, all of us would have signed up for a 10-2 record after the first 12 games. Our offensive hasn't quite hit its stride yet, but our defense looks very strong, and that gives us promise that the offense will eventually catch up.

Additionally, it should be noted that of our first 12 games, 7 of those have been neutral court games!!!! (1 was at MSG). I believe playing on the road so much early on positions us even better for the tough road tests ahead.

Did you see him on that fast break where he bricked the layup. What else can he do?

That was a lay up? Thought he had a seizure.

Trimble is fine. Limited, but fine. Plays good defense and controls the ball well.

Agree.  He'll probably come up big for us in a couple conference games.
