STill bearing solid teams like this, and without our starting PG... a good sign. We need a healthy Lovett hopefully soon...
Can't cry about missing Lovett when the announcers were saying St Joe's has been decimated by injuries. I don't know anything about St. Joe's so I don't know who they were missing or how good they are but we are not the only team that has to play short handed.
Hawk fan here good game. I hope Lovett gets healthy as you enter conference play. We lost our point guard in the opener. As a sophomore Lamarr Kimble averaged 15.5 ppg. and a team high of 3.3 assists a night.
Shavar Newkirk is back after ACL surgery in mid-February but is not nearly as effective as he was before going down. Averaged 20.6 ppg. while shooting 46.6% overall and 39.6% for threes.
This year 16 ppg. shooting 35.3% overall and 31% for threes. He's a warrior but not on track for a lock for First Team A10 Honors like last year.
Finally a sophomore Charlie Brown who required wrist surgery after a preseason practice injury has not returned. As a freshmen he set the school record for threes and had 10 NBA scouts in watching him in practice.
He needs to get a little stronger but he can really play and has an unbelievable work ethic.
It was obviously a close game as it was but I would have loved to have seen both squads with their full rosters and a healthy Shavar.
Good luck the rest of the way. I have to admit I was a little surprised when Chris switched coasts and signed up for life in high school gyms and wooing teenagers. That' a far cry from the NBA and the Dream Team but what a great hire for your program.
I'm from the era when it was Lou Carnesecca coming into The Palestra to take on Jack McKinney's Hawks (an eventual NBA Coach of the Year) and when we'd tell the coeds on campus "we have a game in Jamaica this weekend!"
