I stopped watching at about the 5 min mark and missed all the hoopla. Xavier's been a bunch of punks since they came in the league. Revenge will be cold and sweet.

Good for Ahmed. One of his better St Johns moments.

Hey you get beat like that then some jawing is par for the course. I don't like mack having his team dunk up 25 on last possession but shit, this is big time college basketball. As for his post game comments, that was a bitch move and mullin would slap him around.
Not defending Mack overall but I do think I saw him indicate to his team to let the shot clock run out without shooting but player did it on his own.

But when guys don't rebound or close out on shooters somehow Mullin gets blamed. Team was a bunch of Dick's so is their coach.

Stop.  These kids have played their a**es off and brought us some great moments this year.  I'm tired of not making the dance but I'll never call the kids who've been playing the last few months an embarassment.

More embarrassment.

I'll rephrase. What happened after the game was an embarrassment. Best thing Ahmed could do is graduate

More embarrassment.

Could be worse, could be in the MAAC.

Xavier and season recap: http://www.bigeastboards.com/

Agree whole heartedly on the Ahmed analysis. It's too bad we didn't have another scoring guard, which could have allowed him to be an energy 6th man and fan favorite. I'll miss the guy.

Hoping to read more of these next year, might be a fun year to write them for a change.

Confirmation of a return?

You bet your arse. I knew it. Love this kid.
Owens is a bit more iffy, but it'd be a weak move to run from a team that you are such a big part of that has showed so much promise in the last 5 weeks.

I'd also ask Yakwe to stay and take a redshirt.

Why in the world would we continue to use a scholarship on a guy that couldn't find his way on the court when we had 7 players, one of which being Amar Alibegovic. He couldn't get burn over Justin Cole.

He has gotten worse over the past 3 years. He isn't going to get any better and you want to tie up a scholarship for 2 years in the hope that by some miracle he puts it together and contributes 2 years from now. And he even he does get better, his ceiling is still around that of a random JUCO big.

Exactly!  Why tie up a scholarship on someone you hardly allowed to touch the floor during the last month and a half; progressively, gotten worse; AND, he'll only have one more season?  Go out and bust your ass on the recruiting trail and find a more than viable option.

I liked Yakwe a lot, I will for sure wish him well and hope he finds a program where he can excell for his last season of college ball. He clearly doesn't have a place here anymore.

Continuity. Yakwe was a top 75 kid and he lost more than half a season as a frosh. We haven't had a capable big man coach either. The kid went for 16 and 15 against Delgado as a freshman. There is something there that a new coach could tap into.

We lose Clark and Owens after next season, leaving us with two sophs and a junior coming off his first year playing for us in the front court. Do you really want to go into 2019 with Keita, Earlington, and Roberts as our veterans up front?

Keita will be a junior, and Earlington and Roberts will be sophomores. That's experience, especially if they received sufficient burn the previous season, in the college game that I know.   If the big man coach can supposedly coach up Yakwe, then he should be able to coach up those three.

You also have to wonder, if redshirting Yakwe could scare off Cockburn per being a crowded frontcourt.  I'd rather take my chances with the frontcourt above and have a free scholarship for Cockburn or another potential viable option.

That'll be enough potential talent for a big man coach to show his chops (that's if we even bring in such a coach)

Pretty sure every sentence there is completely absurd. Let break it down.

Continuity? That's nice in theory but there it's not magic dust. If the team from 2 years ago played together for 10 years in a row they'd never win more than 3 Big East games. Continuity doesn't count for much when the players stink.

Yakwe missed 6 out of 32 games as a Frosh. That is 18.75% of the games. That is far less than half the season.

How many college programs actually have capable big men coaches? There are coaches that work with big men, sure, but I wouldn't think there are too many programs that have true big men coaches.

Yes, he went for 16 and 15 against Seton Hall as a Freshman, but like everybody else on that team, he was generally terrible for most of the season. He had a poor shooting percentage for a big, wasn't a particularly good rebounder and couldn't play D without fouling. Most chalked his terrible FG% up to having no talent around him which was fair at that time, but it has not improved in the following two seasons, in fact it got worse.

A new coach? I assume you mean assistant, but who out there can we bring in that has experience transforming terrible undersized bigs into serviceable players?

With all the ridiculousness in the first paragraph, the second paragraph might be dumber. In this era of college basketball it is impossible to guess what the roster is going to look like 2 years in advance. Assuming that the only bigs in the program at that time are Keita, Earlington and Roberts because they are the only ones on the board now is crazy. What is we pick up another sit-out transfer this offseason? How about a grad transfer 2 years from now? Or a kid who decommits from a school that just fired their coach decides to come here?

The only thing dumber than Yakwe actually agreeing to stay and take a redshirt year is offering that to him in the first place. That scholarship could be better used on a ton of other players

Good point. Mullin playing the walk on over him, leads me to believe something is going on behind the scene.

I approach the roster as a former coach. I wouldn't want to lose a kid I invested three years of coaching in. I always want veterans around in the front court since bigs take so long to develop. It's not uncommon for guys to be trash for three years and then solid as a senior.

Continuity is extremely important even if it doesn't translate into a kid producing tangible benefits on the court. Having someone that knows the drills, routines, etc. is a huge benefit for younger guys. I don't know if Yakwe is thad kind of teammate.

No big man has improved under this staff. I think we'll add an assistant who will change that and I anticipate more zone. Yakwe was made for the zone. I think he could be a solid piece with 15 lbs of muscle and some coaching. I am not comfortable with a front court of Keita and two competent unknown 3* recruits manning the ship in 2019. If you can get a Clark tyoe transfer then I'd feel better losing Yakwe.
