Return the Favor/UConn

Now that Coach Ollie is out, maybe there's a UConn player who'd like to switch to us --- preferably a BIG.

If anything they're going to be allowed to weasel back into the Big East, get Danny Hurley, and be better than St. John's from the get go. Uconn almost always gets what it wants.

If a Uconn player would leave, wouldn’t they want to play for Danny Hurley or URI, or for another strong program? Why would another bottom feeder look appealing? We offer a strange scenario for a recruit. We stink, and we have very playing time available if everyone returns.

If Ponds leaves, that changes things. In that case, our best bet is a grad transfer guard in the mold of a Sterling Gibb.

Uconn is a perennially dirty program. Ollie is fired with cause because of recruiting violations. They wouldn’t dare treat Jim Calhoun like that because he’s a legendary coach.

Would be surprised if Wilson stayed

I know this sounds crazy but you know who I would look at for an assistant position if I were Coach Mullin?  Kevin Ollie.  Good experience and very good recruiting contacts especially out west.  Not sure Ollie would want to come but if he was interested I would do it in a second.

Otherwise Raphael Chillious off of UCONN staff would be a nice addution somewhere on SJU staff.

Ollie?  The one who stole Wilson and crapped up our season?  No thanks.

Obviously that's not happening for a number of reasons. Whether legit or not, Ollie has the stink of an NCAA investigation on him and doubt any college will bring him in as an assistant right now and I don't think he'd want that at this point anyway. Seems like him going to the NBA as an assistant or front office type guy is the logical next step for him.

I thought about Chillious, too.  I know he has recruiting chops, but was wondering what he brought to the table from a coaching standpoint.

The NCAA stuff is not an issue as an assistant.

And if what I heard is correct the allegations are not around recruiting.

Again I don't believe it will happen but the NCAA stuff would be the last thing I would be worried about.

It’s not so crazy, but this isn’t what the team needs. Speaking of crazy, Mike Rice would have really helped this team. They don’t play defense, and his teams played great defense. If he was here, he could have made up for almost all of Mullin’s shortcomings and eventually he’d take over as head coach when Mullin finally accepts that he’s terrible at this.

Will bet anyone just about anything. Greg st. Jean is top assistant next year.

We need an assistant that can coach and develop talent. Ollie didn't do that outside of his first year when the team was Calhoun's.

Had their chance, but don’t see that happening. It will be interesting to see if anything happens unless a staff member decides to leave.

Never intended to annoy you. And I understand that you posted what you thought was right at the time. I believed this from the beginning.
