Maybe the dad isn’t looking for shots or minutes for his son. Maybe the dad wants a PG that can play. Or acoach that is competent and will work. This family could be mad that they thought they were going to a big time program coached by hall of famers instead of a 23 year old novice. Maybe the family wants some assurance that this staff has the vaguest clue how to do their jobs.  Winning games might be important to them. As is getting a chance to play pro ball.

Then maybe his son should report at an acceptable weight with a post move instead of showing up looking like he's been tied to a chair in a basement for two months without food?🤔
Or maybe he could learn a post move playing division 1 Basketball. Maybe he could gain weight and improve his body again at a division 1 school who supposedly has stength coaches.

If you don't get all bound up pretty quickly this off season is going to be excruciating.

Didn't he post that he wasn't raised to quit "ANYTHING" just a few days ago.
I'd rather have him than not, but it's not a huge loss. He was never going to put in the weight he needed. He'll never find a school that will offer more minutes.

He could find 100 schools that will offer him more minutes.

He played 30+ minutes per game.  Yet there are 100 schools that will offer him more minutes?

I would like to see him stay from a depth perspective but,  if gone, it will only hurt from a depth perspective.  His game is unbelievably flawed.  He is a poor rebounder, has no inside game and has a mediocre shot.   Opponents move him around at will..  He has not done what he needs to do to be effective, put on significant weight .  The problem is that this is continually happening and shows no sign of abating.  If we lose another core player it will be a disaster

The leak to Evan Daniels was obviously done by someone in Owen's camp (his Dad).

It's really ridiculous to see fans sucking this dude off.  While I would like to see Tariq come back this is Lovett selfishness part 2. I want kids that want to be here without an agenda... That's why I like this incoming class.

I would love to see loyalty from our players, but that’s really not something that’s been part of the St.John’s program. Does the University appreciate the former players that come back to games to support the team? F no.

If Tariq graduates from St.John’s then he will have done his part. He doesn’t owe them more than he’s given them already.  Why does he need a graduate degree as well from the same school? This is one area where I support the NCAA. Let a student athlete who takes it seriously enough to graduate in 4 years continue to learn basketball + earn a grad degree from a different institution. What’s so wrong with that? If that was your kid, wouldn’t you want him to have a better resume?

This may all work out fine provided something lights a fire under our staff and they recruit a center grad transfer or juco themselves.

I agree with you if this wasn't solely a looking fwd/ pro basketball decision. It is clearly "business" and not about education.

Put yourself on a high cheese low fiber diet. Keep well hydrated by drinking only grape soda and or buttermilk.

Mullin career wins in conference: 12
Mullin transfers: 9 (Yakwe) could make 10.

Guy is doing a bang up job.  At least he is over .500 in something.

Unless Jordan Brown or another person who will take Tariq’s starting spot are coming then this is hard to understand. Tariq plays hard and has had some really nice games. He’s a flawed player who struggled to rebound and score at times but he always bring the effort. He developed and a decent jumper and had some nice upside for next season. He was in line for a lot of minutes on what should be a good team. Just feel like we are missing something here.

And he would have played more if he wasn't always in foul trouble. He fouled out in three of his last five games, including in 18 minutes versus Xavier. He had four plus fouls in 22 games.

What’s missing is a coach without a laissez faire attitude... it’s been published that Mullin runs the program like a NBA team.  It’s no wonder he can’t even get in contact with parents before transfer news goes public (twice now in a matter of weeks). It’s pretty obvious there’s a major gap in communication.

Well if Yawke or any other suitable big was on the team then that wouldn’t be a problem. We’ll have the same issue again next year if there’s only 1 big...

As flawed as Tariq's game may be there are elements that he does bring that we will not be able to replace. We will not even be able to replace the area's of his game that needs improvement. Should he transfer, how anyone cannot see that as a big blow to our potential success next year given the current state of our roster isn't paying attention.

As one poster mentioned everyone is playing out of position. Clark is a 3, Owens is a stretch 4. Part of the success we had when Ponds was out is that it forced Mullin to play them at the positions they are meant to play. If Owens returns, a starting line up of Keita, Owens, Clark, Simon, and Ponds would be very competitive. With Dixon, Williams, and hopefully another quality big soon to be added we will have the talent and depth to compete. Staff needs to recruit better.

Really don't understand this. We had a real shot at the Tournament if he stayed. Now I don't see it. Where is he going to go that could offer a better situation? Plus he's familiar with the school, coaches, teammates and is guaranteed 30+ minutes. A real headscratcher.

it is pretty obvious that the family doesn't believe this program, coaches, and system can set him up for a pro-career in the NBA.  simple as that.

pretty simple, actually.  staff has no one who is experienced in coaching up the bigs or even in playing the 4/5
