Owens Leaving

Tariq Owens has asked St. John’s for a release and will graduate in May, per a source. Averaged 8.4 PPG & 5.9 RPG this season.

Very disappointing for next season to say the least. At least they have some length coming in.

I'm told Tariq Owens may explore transfer possibilities, but he hasn't gotten a release or asked for one, per sources. #sjubb

1 step forward and 2 steps back.
9th place by tiebreaker isn’t any step foward.

My point exactly.

Didn't he post that he wasn't raised to quit "ANYTHING" just a few days ago.
I'd rather have him than not, but it's not a huge loss. He was never going to put in the weight he needed. He'll never find a school that will offer more minutes.

Should Owens leave, and most likely yawke, Mullin would have 0 recruits left  from initial class.  Talk about how NOT to build a program.

Have to hope if he is seriously considering leaving it’s because he hears the staff has a bite on a solid head transfer and Keits is the real deal. Just trying to find something

I could sense this would happen.  I figured once the season ended, and he and his dad had some clarity that he may come return.  I guess dad wasn't buying what Mullin was offering during their end of season meeting.

As much, as I like Owens....  He can be replaced.  But not sure how much the staff will bust their ass in replacing him.

That flat out sucks.  He’s showcasing himself very well here at SJU.  He’s improved consistently.  Not sure what he’s gonna gain by transferring?  We are certainly hurting if we lose Owens.  He’s been a big difference maker...  I’m bummed to hear it...  it’s a no win because it’s not like we have any too 100’s in the wings for 18’...

So let's see Tariq's father tells Evan that Tariq is transferring and Matt tells Zach not done yet.

We need another recruiter badly.. Matt can’t do this on his own...

Still laughable people looked at one non-contextualized tweet and thought of it as the confirmation that he's staying.

Another recuiter to sell what? You guys are ridiculous. When is rock bottom? If everyone that was recruited stayed we would have a great team.

Awful way to start a very crucial offseason however says a lot about the climate of college basketball today. Kids don't want to be part of building anything. It's all about instant gratification and next thing.

Anyway you slice it, Mullin has to take a it with all the constant player movement. I know the circumstances were tough when he got hired and he had to take kids to fill out a team....but this is getting ridiculous.

We should have tried to hire Hurley... tired of this stuff.  We still should be able to land recruits.  We are trying to do this like 2 recruiters short... Not sure who is hamstringing us with the potential hiring of an assistant head coach, but it’s hurtijg us.  Abdelmassih is going 1 recruiter vs 3 against most teams out there./.

Agree.  Those "riddles" many of these kids speak on social media can mean a half of dozen things.

How about Mullin be a recruiter? He can’t even keep kids on his roster. For every kid matty a lands, Mullin loses 2 more. Guy f’n blows as a coach.
