Understanding  that it only take ONE team, one scout, one evaluator to give him a 1st rd promise and he's gone...that being said I've spoke to more than a handful of scouts these past 10-14 days and not one says he's even CLOSE to the 1st rd. Understand that the back end are teams that usually stash abroad so those kids take up almost 20/25% of 1st rd. Would a team take a 2nd rd flier and D-league him? Maybe....but I would be SHOCKED if he's not back next year...where I predict Simon will be drafted ahead of Ponds anyway
Agree on his return 79. Re: Simon comment, Marillac in 5, 4, 3 .. :)

Once Simon can wipe his ass without falling over he is draftable as a 4/3 combo forward. Hopefully he plays the four and five this year, but I doubt it.

Zach. Who knows father well responded to the post noted above(

“His father told me nothing has changed. It's about opportunity to work out for teams”

He’s excited about the process, he’s living his dream.

Do yourself a favor and don't pay attention to this type of stuff, or any social media stuff with these kids, unless it is something concrete like "I'm returning (likely)" or "I'm gone".

Per Zach B
St. John's guard Shamorie Ponds has workouts set up with the Celtics (today and tomorrow), Nets (May 10-11), Cavaliers (May 11-12), and Pistons (May 24), per his father. Nothing has changed in terms of decision. Going through evaluation process. #sjubb

Shamorie Ponds is still taking classes and has been working out on campus. St. John's fans need to be patient, and let this play out. #sjubb

Tea leaves say he returns :)

Even if he was 40 percent. He is not an NBA player. Not big, strong, or fast . Physical ability needs to translate. This won’t change this year or next. Hopefully he enjoys being in school and playing in America.

I love Shamorie but he simply doesn't have an NBA body.  Because of being undersized he'll have to show tremendous abilities in other aspects of his game to wow scouts and shooting 30% from 3 isn't going to wow anybody.

I. Thomas of the  Lakers was a career 32% shooter for downtown in college and was 4th in MVP voting last year. Not too sure how much NBA yall watch but it is glorified AAU ball. And Ponds can certainly be at least a bench player in this era.
Attack basketball, pressure defense, 40 minutes of hell ... Early on it might be 30 minutes of hell, then 10 minutes of what the hell are you doing?"

Why no invite to combine?

Because the league is telling him that he should stay away for a year, get better, get stronger, and see where he is next year come this time.

Ponds should return but I disagree with those saying he's not an NBA player. I could easily see him as a scoring PG off the bench in the NBA. He's a special talent, but he doesn't have a potential or the body to be a 1st round pick. I don't see him being a 1st round pick next year either.

I agree that Simon is more likely to be be a 1st round pick than Ponds.

Ponds is a first round talent and outside shooting is the strongest part of his game. He could shoot near 50% from three if he was a dedicated spot up shooter with a few legitimate guards to set him up. Going off his shooting % last year (and completely ignoring what he did as a freshman) like WASJU is just foolish. You can make the case that his shot selection was awful but that's where it ends. You'll never see a kid take a higher degree of difficulty from deep as he did last year out of nexessity. After Lovett went down we had the worst ball-handling the Big East has ever seen and no inside presence to command a double team. He would go several games between open set shots. He was never given a foot on the perimeter even when his shooting % dipped below 20% briefly.  That should tel you all you need to know.

He's G League bound if he stays in the draft. He needs to work on his defense and PG skills another year while adding ten pounds of muscle.

His basketball IQ, feel for the game, hands, and ability to slow the game down in his mind are truly elite. You don't see kids reacting to defenders and making counter moves at such a high level like him often. The kid has a 10 year NBA career waiting if he does it right and waits.

What’s withdrawal deadline?  June 17th?

For guys like Ponds, it should be a few seconds after the Combine list was released

Agree here.  He should have enough data by now to make a fair assessment.
