Are we really knocking the staff recruiting the same day we signed two former top 100 recruits as transfers?
We have two former top 40 recruits, three more top 100 recruits, two conference rookies of the year as transfers, a kid that played 10 mpg on an elite eight MSU team as a freshman, and a 4-star SG on the roster at the monent. This might be the best roster we've had in almost 20 years on paper. It's balanced, experienced, strong, and relatively big. Matt maybe the only recruiter but he doesn't coach a lick -- the Italian secretary is more engaged during the game and huddles.
"We" didn't do anything, Matt's coaching has nothing to do with what I wrote and what in God's name does any of that have to do with the limited period you have to appear at AAU events during April?
Fans taking shots at Mullin the day his staff got commitments from two former top 100 recruits shows why we have the shittiest fans in the country.
Duke just landed 4 out of the top 15 players in the 2018 class, but Coach K is still in Dallas recruiting. We landed a guy who averaged 3.0 PPG on an NIT team, and a JUCO player (and I actually loved both signings btw), so we should give Mullin and staff a break for completely skipping the event in Dallas where all our 2019 HS targets are? Honestly, the fans who condone this type of incompetence shows why we have the shittiest fans in the country.
First of all wtf do you know about what Mullin was up to? Everything that comes out get released through Matt A one way or another and that is released with the intent of making himself look like a hero -- don't be naive to think that doesn't mean throwing others under the bus to prop himself up. Our fan base has NEVER been less connected than we are now.
2019 doesn't mean jack sh*t if we can't win this season. We have one of the best players in the country for another year in all likelihood. Closing the deal with 2018 comes first and nobody knows what role Mullin staying in town had to do with getting LJ (and Wright), working on other
2018 recruits, handling crap with current players, or dealing with other basketball related matters.
If we lose this coming season it's all over. Coach K doesn't be have that risk.
You are correct I have no idea what Mullin was up to. I just know that he, nor anyone on the staff he’s responsible for, was at the April Live period event in which all our top 2019 targets were playing.
Any good coach, Coach K included, would not have put themselves in the position in which his whole tenure, and basically the reputation of the entire program hinged on one season in the first place.
Sorry but this is bullsh*t. You can knock Mullin and staff for taking a chance on Lovett given his red flags (what coach in his situation bypasses a top 50 talent?), but there was no way to predict Ellison, Mussini, and RF would leave like they did. All high character kids with great basketball reps.
Mullin knows basketball and St. John's. He's learning the nuances of the modern college game and about millennials and how loyalty and accountability are at all-time lows. I absolutely believe Mullin's character and past success have kept him from groveling and reaching pathetic levels many coaches have to sink to in order to cater to divas and re-recruit their own guys each year. That hurts short term but it's the kind of thing that could be a huge plus going forward when he has complete rosters full of team players that want to be at St. John's and don't need their hands held. He had a decade of lessons in his three years...I believe he learned from them.
