Can you find one other power conference teams with expectations with only three Q1 + Q2 games in the OOC?

Can you find one power conference team whose fans think going undefeated OOC would be "very unimpressive" and that losing one OOC game "would be a disaster"?

Perhaps you should reconsider what "the dumbest thing I've ever heard" is.

If that's the case, why don't we just play St Francis 12 times before conference play?

Unfortunately the staff blew it with the scheduling this year and that will undoubtedly hurt us on selection sunday no matter what happens. We HAVE to be 12-0 going into the first BE game on 12/29. Anything less would be a disaster and even 12-0 would be a very unimpressive undefeated record with that schedule.

This is patently absurd. We had a top SOS last year so clearly someone understands the RPI better than you.

We are playing at #3 Duke, @ Rutgers of the Big Ten, and a handful of neutral court games against big conference foes. You make it seem like we are playing St. Francis at home twelve times!

We can easily absorb and 10-2 start. Our schedule is a Ga Tech or California being decent this season away from being perfect.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Again, Marquette and Creighton each play 6 games tougher than anybody we play in the first 12 games of the season. There is complete consensus from every mildly smart person on Twitter that our schedule is a MAJOR issue, because it is.

Not only would going 10-2 be horrific for us come selection Sunday, losing 2 of those games would mean we stink, plain and simple. We will be double digit favorites in every single one of these games except for @ Rutgers which we'll be a 5 or 6 point fav.

Also, the RPI is dead and replaced by the quad system. None of those first 12 games will be Q1 games, while everybody else will be playing several of them

The RPI has not been replaced by the quadrant system, it has been replaced by the NET. The quadrant system will be used on the team sheets on selection Sunday so it will still play a role for the second season.

I am baffled by how you can divorce the game @ #3 Duke from the rest of the OOC schedule. That will be one of the toughest OOC games played by any team in college basketball this season. On top of that, any team can lose on the road to a team like Rutgers.

Temple was #52 in the RPI and is expecting to make the dance. VCU is not far behind. Cal will likely be middle to bottom of the PAC12 but it's still a high major on a neutral court. GA Tech has potential to push for the bubble as well and that is on a neutral court as well.

Duke is a Q1 game, Rutgers will be a Q2 game, and Temple will be a Q1 or Q2 game.

If the staff knew for certain Heron would be eligible in sure they would have liked to add a better opponent for an MSG game. But we have to be one of the least appealing matchups for coaches of quality teams with Heron up in the air and Ponds up in the air at the time...we could be top 15 or outside the top 100.

So many things you said in this post are patently false.

1) Temple is a middle of the pack AAC team this year. They are not expecting to make the tournament this year. They can be a bubble team if they catch breaks, but thats about it. That will not be a Q1 game.

2) VCU is pretty far behind Temple. VCU is a middle of the pack team in the A-10 which has turned into a mediocre at best conference. Their best player is hurt and they aren't a top 100 team. Hopefully we don't play them.

3) Cal has no chance of reaching the middle of the Pac 12. They stink. If it wasn't for Washington State, Cal would be the unanimous pick to finish last in that conference which is still pretty weak at the bottom. Just because they play in a high major conference that doesn't make beating them any better. They are worse than a good amount of low-major conference schools. NJIT is probably better than Cal this year. That's not an exaggeration.

4) Georgia Tech will be nowhere near the bubble this year. Unless the NCAA rules 50 teams ineligible for the postseason because of this court case, G Tech won't be near the bubble. They weren't a top 100 last year and they lost their 2 best players and didn't really replace them with anybody good. Similarly to Cal, if it wasn't for Pitt, GT would be the unanimous pick to finish last in the conference.

Let's assume in our 13 conference games we have one Q1 game (@Duke), two Q2 (@ Rutgers being generous, Temple neutral) and the rest will be Q3 and Q4 games. Can you find one other power conference teams with expectations with only three Q1 + Q2 games in the OOC?

What are the winning lottery #s for next week?

Duke plays two Q1 or Q2 OOC based on last year's finishes and one of those is Texas Tech at home who loses nearly everyone.

Syracuse only plays one road game (forced to in ACC/Big 10 challenge) and that is their only Q1 OOC game and only OOC game against a team that finished in the top 60 in the Pomeroy rankings (which the new NET is set to more closely resemble).

We play two road games and three neutral court games against major conference opponents. Those are all losable games. Then we play the defending national champs Nova 2-3 times in conference along with a bunch of other really well run programs that are all capable of beating any team in the country.

Duke plays:

Kentucky neutral (Q1)
San Diego State neutral (Q1/Q2 border)
Auburn/Xavier neutral (Q1)
Gonzaga/Arizona/Iowa State/Illinois (Almost definitely Q1)
Indiana home (Q1/Q2 border)
Texas Tech neutral (Q2)
St John's home (Q1/Q2 border)

That's 7 Q1 + Q2 games

Syracuse:
Yukon neutral (Q2)
Iowa/Oregon neutral (Q1)
Ohio State road (Q1)
Buffalo home (Q2)

That's a weak schedule, but still not worse than ours and they definitely have 2 Q1 games.

The point is this season is supposed to be special now that Heron is eligible. The only thing we should be worried about on selection Sunday is if we get a 4 or 5 seed, not if we make it or not. Unfortunately the weak OOC schedule gives us 0 margin for error.

Temple would be the 9th best team in the Big East. Rutgers is worse than DePaul. Georgia Tech is worse than DePaul. Cal is WAY worse than DePaul. If we lose to any of those teams it would be a complete embarrassment with our roster, and how could you expect to go 10-8 in the BE if you can't sweep these crappy teams?

You are basing this all off YOUR predictions. Syracuse plays one team that finished in the KenPom top 60 last year! You assume our opponents will all be worse than last year and Cuse and Duke's will all be  better and in many cases much better 🙄

You need to balance wins with quality opponents. What good does a 3-9 schedule against 12 top 15 teams? We'd miss the tournament even with an 11-8 Big East Record.

You're right. And if we go 10-2 in those first 12, we will miss the tournament if we go 10-8 in BE regular season and 1-1 in BET. 21 wins with this schedule doesn't get us in the tournament. That's my entire point. 0 margin for error in what should be a season we are hoping to be a 4 or 5 seed

With 13 OOC games (including Duke), we need to go 11-2 (and close losses to Duke or Temple/VCU only)

then 12-8 in Big East reg season and at least 1 win in BET

23 wins are what I think we'll need to get benefit of the doubt.

It’s also about who you beat. A 10-8 finish in BE play could be a potential top four finish in the standings. With at least 1 win in the BE tournament I believe if we finished with that record it would be hard to keep us out of the dance. Looking for the team to go 11-7/12-6 in BE play this year.

Or you could look at it like this roster is at least 10 wins better than the 15-16 roster so you can lock us in for at least an 11-7 BE record. Thanks
