Zach vs. Zags
« on: October 13, 2018, 09:34:11 AM »
If the Heron news is accurate and I expect and hope it is, Zach will be annoyed Zags beat him on the scoop. Zach will make us pay when he gets the chance as the season unfolds...or sooner.

Coverage.   Things he highlights.   Picking on players, staff, fans etc.   He did it to Hollywood when they wouldn't leak to him or give him access to Phillie (which was a wise decision) etc. and did it somewhat to Coach Mullin last year.  Like it was his fault his point guard quit and blindsided his plan.  Hope I'm wrong and Congrats to team on getting their stud eligible and to Zags on breaking the news.

Last season is entirely on Mullin. Anyone that can’t see that doesn’t understand what a coach’s responsibilities are. If Zach “picks” on us, the program will have earned it.

This attitude that it’s always someone else’s fault is a St.John’s tradition. The only one they’ve upheld all these years.

He was waaay to nice to Mullin because he was receiving inside info.  He was waaay to hard on lavin because that regime didn't give him shit. He's a self serving ass who only cares about his access and not the betterment of the program. Unfortunately a lot of the #sjubb twitter folk take everything he says at face value because they look at him as a fellow fan of the team instead of a very biased reporter.

Kudos to zags. Met him a few times at different hs events in Philly area and he was always a gentleman to us. Preferred to be called Adam instead of Mr. Zagoria.

I think it was reasonable to be nice to Mullin the first two seasons. Frankly, the press has been nice to everyone in the first two seasons except for Mahoney.

In terms of objectivity, Zach ripped into Mullin’s coaching last year. I don’t how anyone can determine that he’s self serving just by following Tweets and reading the occasional NY Post article.

I remember when Norm first started the press was really easy on him. They didn’t utter a bad word for two years because they barely uttered anything about us. Our basketball wasn’t even considered worthy of coverage.

After experiencing that level of insignificance I value Zach’s coverage of STJ. Heron isn’t on the court. Let’s hold off on the champagne until it’s in ink. Maybe Zach has good reason to keep it on ice. Lest we forget that both Sanchez’s and LoVett’s eligibility were right about to happen.

Also, let’s not forget that in these cases, we’ve blamed the NCAA and then later on blamed the kid. Why isn’t the St.John’s coach at fault?

Jesus this is exactly what he did, then gave credit to another reporter who himself credited Zags. Bad look.

Seriously? Wow. These guys act like children. Zags can be guilty of this himself to a lesser degree, but seems like a decent guy. Zach is whiney, nasally prick.

They're competitive just like athletes, but no one gives them technicals or even foul calls.  All we can ask is sustained fairness.  Now, they like almost everyone are hyping expectations for a team that still has to learn to play together,  to play for 40 minutes, to play defense and rebound, and is still fairly scrawny (Marvin and Sidee not included) by Big East standards.

Last season totally on Mullin..?   Just not a completely fair statement....

Having a limited rotation is def on the coaching staff but when your #2 scorer quits on the team, that is not on the Coach. That is on the gutless kid that left his teammates holding their D----...

"2. Is Chris Mullin a capable coach?

Few people who have the Red Storm falling short of expectations cite their roster. Ponds, Heron, and Simon are all-league caliber players. Clark is not far behind and Dixon/Figueroa are two of the best reserves in the conference. Most St. John’s doubters cite Chris Mullin as their main reason for dismissing this team. Mullin has not proved much as a coach, but there are certain factors beyond his control that have led to recent disappointing seasons.

Steve Lavin left the cupboard absolutely bare and Mullin did an excellent job injecting talent into the roster. Last season, Marcus Lovett left the team and he was a crucial piece. His departure left the Red Storm with too few creators and offensive threats. If everyone remains healthy, I am confident that Mullin will be a good enough coach to bring St. John’s back to the NCAA Tournament."

What about getting nothing out of 4 star highly ranked yakwe? The mullintards said he should transfer to a lower level, Where he could play.

Funny he didn’t have trouble finding a new school. Anyone think last years team could have used a PF? At least we got see Amir and walkons play.

Hurley wouldn’t have brought him in if he didn’t want him. Forgot who else was interested. But it was a few decent schools.
Not saying he is a great player. But he was  our 7th best last year. The staff should have gotten something out of him.
Amir played way to much. Does coach mullin not get blame for that? How come 0 recruits ? Or did you forget ?

What's he going to say? He's on record saying that Mullin can't coach and can't recruit. I mean sure, this is the most talented roster on paper since Artest but we lost Yawke and Mikey Dixon isn't as athletic as Mussini or as tall as Malik Boothe, which even though those guys stunk when they were here they're not here any more so they they must be good. If he says 23 wins (which is sort of MOR - 10 OOC, 10 BE, 2 BET, 1 NCAA), how can a coach who can't coach or recruit finish in the top 4 in the best BB conference in the country and make the round of 32. Which if that happens he's revealed as a mook. And if he says 17, he'll be revealed as even a bigger mook when they make the tournament. He's emotionally invested in Mullin is a nice person narrative he spins while he shits on the train. [Ed note: what kind of an grotesque animal shits on the train?] There's zero incentive for him to predict anything and he won't. He'll root for them to lose and he'll whine when they do and when they win he'll disappear until they lose again. Which all but one team does eventually.
