15 steals per game?

I'd probably prefer to see Josh Roberts getting minutes to spell Keita and Clark instead of Earlington. One of the two will need to be semi reliable as its unrealistic to expect keita to play 33 mins a game and not get in foul trouble.

Would love to hear more about Roberts and Earlington. Roberts looks really good in the video I saw. Earlington, from what I can tell is kinda like Sean Evans. Maybe with a better handle. I’m a little disappointed that they didn’t get in the game on Sunday.

Yea I mean I know very little about the two outside of their HS rankings and a little bit of tape I've been able to find of both but seems like Roberts would be more of an athletic shot blocker/ dunker type while Earlington looks to be more of the undersized, fundamentally sound, banger mold.  Just hope one of the two is ready to log a few mins a game as it would be really nice to have some big man depth for the first time in a decade.

No comment on whether his numbers are accurate or inaccurate but adding average points per player per game does not predict the number of team points scored per game. In 2016 e.g. adding the average points per game per player you get 80. Whereas dividing the number of total points scored by the team over a season by the number of games played equals 68. I'm not a math major but I suspect carry the one that it's because not every player plays the number of minutes he averages every game. That is, if leading scorer Durand Johnson averaged 12 points in 27 average minutes if he doesn't play 27 minutes he doesn't score 12 points and those minutes go to guys who score fewer points.

If a player averages 10 points a game but doesn't play in 5 games because of injury or benching, then he scores no points in the games he doesn't play in.  He still averages 10 points per game for the games he plays in, but the team totals are skewered if you just add up individual player's averages.

I think we have to accept that there will be no big man depth. The grad transfer that we’ve all wanted for years doesn’t want a grad degree from St.John’s.

I think we have expect both Roberts and Earlington to be as green as any freshman we’ve ever had. It’s up to the staff to coach them up, but I’m not counting on them this season. Staff doesn’t do well with freshman.

Yeah, I think this goes without saying. No team's player averages will ever equal the average per game output. But 100+ a game is still absurd without any qualifiers like expecting a transfer, catastrophic injury, or explaining guys like Williams will only play ten games.

While 100+ is "absurd", I remember late 1980's when Loyola Marymount, under Paul Westhead, averaged over 110 per game for three straight years (one of which was over 120).  It was a fast break offense that looked to shoot in 7 seconds.  Kimble and Gathers were fun to watch and both were transfers.

Actually, this one went over your head.

Just because a player puts up 8 points per game doesn’t mean he’s doing it all season long and in every game. I fully expect big numbers in the pre season with such an easy schedule. I also expect one starter and one one bench player to miss significant time with an injury or some kind of surprise academic or eligibility issue.

I think it is pointless to predict stats given all the obvious variants with this team.  I think they are off the board quick and will push it constantly, the style Mullin prefers.  I think they will pressure on D, hopefully all over the court and for most of the game.  With so many interchangeable parts (excpet for Ponds) and multi-position players I think pressure is the defensive answer.  Hopefully the team plays better defence in the 1/2 court as well but agressive pressure covers up a lot of lapses.  Steals and turnovers will abound and will far outnumber the times the press leads to an opposition dunk.  No one but Ponds will play over 30 minutes a game so they should all be fresh....depth cures a lot of sins.  Finally, if they dont team rebound well rebounding could again be a negative.
