The author writes that he thinks "sju should be higher" but the valid question marks are whats dragging them down. I think with a proven coach this team would be around 22-28.
I don't disagree, although I'd like to see an actual game before deciding how good they are or can be.
As far as Mullin doing a great job building such a great roster, I don't give credit for building a roster of transfers. You don't attain program stability by wasting scholarships on kids sitting out a year and then only having them play on your team for a year or two. He gets major kudos for getting Ponds out of HS and developing him. Outside of him, not one of our top 7 players will play 4 full years for St. John's.
I don't care where the players come from. High school, JUCO, transfer. All I care is how they perform. Historically many of our best players on our best teams - Reggie Carter, Walter Berry, Hatten, Bootsy,
Ron Rown, Hardy and Brownlee - were not HS recruits and only played a year or two. The fact is that unless you regularly get 4 and 5 star recruits - and we don't - most players only contribute a year or two anyway.
